Why is there an epidural hematoma in the middle of waking? Why?

The clinical manifestations of epidural hematoma are related to the location, growth rate and subdural injury.

1. There are five types of consciousness changes in patients with consciousness disorder after injury. (1) always awake after injury; (2) I have been in a coma since I was injured.

; (3) Awakening after injury and then coma; (4) coma immediately after injury; (5) coma after injury, with an intermediate awake period, and then coma. The intermediate waking period refers to coma when injured, improvement of consciousness disorder after several minutes or hours, or even complete wakefulness, and then coma due to epidural hematoma formation. It is generally believed that this change of consciousness is not only a typical clinical manifestation of epidural hematoma, but also a manifestation of other brain hematomas. In clinic, the proportion of such patients is less than 1/3. The change of patients' conscious state depends on the degree of primary brain injury, the speed of hematoma formation and whether there are other intracranial injuries.

2. Epidural hematoma with simple neurological symptoms rarely shows signs of nervous system in the early stage, and only when the hematoma compresses the brain functional area does it show corresponding symptoms. However, if the hematoma continues to increase, causing brain hernia, there may be typical signs such as dilated pupils on the affected side and paralysis of the contralateral limb. When such symptoms appear, surgical decompression should be carried out in time to save lives.

3. Increased intracranial pressure With the increase of hematoma volume, patients often have headache, vomiting and Cushing's reaction. If the intracranial pressure continues to rise, it will cause brain hernia and cause serious consequences.
