This school has a long history. Zhejiang Sci-Tech University is located in the famous historical and cultural city of Hangzhou, covering an area of 2 100 mu. The school's predecessor, Silkworm Academy, was founded in 1897 by Qi Lin, the governor of Hangzhou, in order to save the country through industry and education. It is one of the earliest new educational institutions in China. 1908, due to its outstanding achievements in running schools, it was upgraded to "Advanced Sericulture School" with the royal approval of the Qing government.
