3D Studio Max, commonly referred to as 3d Max or 3ds MAX, is a 3D modeling, rendering and production software based on PC system developed by Discreet Company (later merged by Autodesk Company). Its predecessor is 3D Studio series software based on DOS operating system. Before the appearance of Windows NT, industrial CG production was monopolized by SGI graphics workstation.
The combination of 3D Studio Max+Windows NT suddenly lowered the threshold of CG production. At first, it was used for animation of computer games, and later it began to participate in the production of special effects of movies and TV, such as X-Men II, the Last Warrior and so on. After Discreet 3Ds max 7, it was officially renamed Autodesk 3ds Max. The latest version is 3ds max 2022.
