Extended data:

Sanqing and Four Emperors are one of Chinese folk beliefs. Their origin is related to the development of historical Taoism and the emergence and demise of various factions. In early Taoism, Laozi was regarded as a leader. However, since the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, due to the introduction of Buddhism into China, the invisible competition of religions has catalyzed and accelerated the progress and perfection of Taoism. So through the fusion of sects and the intersection of various gods, the "Sanqing" gods were formed.

Sanqing gods are the three highest-ranking gods in the Taoist fairy world. The Four Emperors are the gods who govern the three realms, and used to be called the Six Emperors. In order to conform to the classification of the four auxiliary Taoist scriptures (Taiqing, Taiping, Taixuan and Zhengyi), the Jade Emperor and Tsinghua Emperor were listed separately, forming today's four emperors. They are: the Northern Emperor of Zhongtian Weizi, the Immortal Emperor of Antarctica, the Emperor of Gouchen Shanggong and the Empress of Houtu (goddess).
