The distance traveled by light in a year is called "a light year". A light year is about 9.46 trillion kilometers. A more formal definition is: the distance traveled by a photon in a Julian year [1] (that is, 365.25 days, equivalent to 86,400 seconds per day) in a free space, infinitely far from any gravitational field or magnetic field. Because the speed of light in a vacuum is 299,792,458 meters per second (to be precise), one light year is equivalent to 9,454,254,955,488,000 meters (calculated at 60 seconds per minute, 24 hours a day and 365 days a year). 10 inch equals 1 foot, 1 inch equals 3.33 cm, and 1 foot equals one third of a meter.
