Lake City is located in the middle of Anhui Province, bordering the Yangtze River and surrounding Chaohu Lake, one of the five largest freshwater lakes in China. It now governs Lujiang, Wuwei, Hexian, Hanshan and Juchao. The city has a total area of 9,423 square kilometers and a total population of 4.53 million.

Chaohu Lake enjoys an excellent geographical location and convenient transportation. Adjacent to Nanjing, Hefei, Anqing and Wuhu. Huainan Railway, Hejiu Railway, Hening, Hurong and Hechaowu Expressway pass through the territory. "Three Treasures of Chaohu Lake" (whitebait, white rice shrimp and crab) enjoys a high reputation. Chaohu Lake is a national scenic spot, with more than 138 natural and cultural landscapes in the city. Rivers, lakes, mountains and springs coexist and are famous for their water. Lake light, hot springs and mountains are the "three wonders of Chaohu Lake scenery".

Since the reform and opening up, especially since the 1990s, the social and economic development of Chaohu Lake has been accelerating, and its comprehensive strength has been significantly enhanced. The agricultural structure has been continuously optimized. Five counties (districts) have been included in the national grain and cotton production counties, and have successively entered the ranks of the top 100 counties in grain, cotton and oil. "Two waters and one dish" (that is, aquatic products, waterfowl and vegetables) have developed rapidly, and the output of aquatic products ranks second in the province, and the output of characteristic aquatic products ranks first in the province.

Tourism has developed rapidly. Four national forest parks, such as Xianren Cave, Weizi Cave, Wuwei Boshan Cave, Hanshan Huayang Cave and Taihu Mountain, and hot spring resorts such as Bantang and Tang Chi have been built, and natural scenery tourism, ancient culture tourism and geological tourism have been actively developed. As the "back garden" of the provincial capital Hefei and surrounding cities such as Nanjing, Shanghai and Hangzhou, the tourism pattern is gradually taking shape. The urban infrastructure has been significantly improved, and the comprehensive supporting functions have been significantly enhanced, and it has won the title of "National Advanced Health City".
