Geographical Environment of Mulan Mountain Scenic Area

Mulan Mountain Scenic Area is rich in plant resources, with more than 920 kinds of common plants. Except for nearly 200 introduced species, most of them are native species, with a forest area of 2,000 hectares and a forest coverage rate of 95%.

The main tree species of timber forest are pine, fir, cypress, pagoda tree, maple, Broussonetia papyrifera, oak, elm, Toona sinensis, camphor tree, eucalyptus, poplar, willow, mulberry, Pterocarya stenoptera and Quercus acutissima.

The main tree species in the ornamental forest are magnolia, camellia, magnolia, magnolia grandiflora, plum blossom, cherry blossom, osmanthus, bauhinia, crape myrtle, hibiscus, hibiscus, wintersweet, rhododendron, winter jasmine and rose. According to the survey, there are nearly 1,000 kinds of precious medicinal materials here, including Salvia miltiorrhiza, Radix Adenophorae, Radix Cynanchi Multiflori, Fructus Ligustri Lucidi, Fritillaria, Radix Platycodi, Ganoderma lucidum, Fructus Lycii, Asparagus, Radix Ophiopogonis, Rhododendron flavum, Hemerocallis, etc. Honeysuckle, Dragon Tuzhu, golden swallow, White Jade, Evergreen, Xanthium sibiricum, Datong, Zihu, Huang Jintao, Polygonatum odoratum, Bletilla striata, Perillae Lilium, Pinellia Poria, Aralia, etc. Mammals in Mulan Mountain Scenic Area are only grass leopard, jackal, wolf, fox, rabbit, weasel, raccoon dog, badger, donkey wolf, hedgehog, mink and wild boar.

With the development of forest greening and forestry, all kinds of birds have moved back to Mulan Mountain to settle down. The common birds are eagle, owl, woodpecker, magpie, grey magpie, turtledove, pheasant, starling, oriole, thrush, lark, bamboo sparrow, Chinese Pulsatilla and so on.

Most reptiles are lizards and geckos, rare are pythons, Zaocys and Agkistrodon halys, and crustaceans are crabs.

There are more than 100 species of bats among the mammals in this mountain, among which the big bats are the flying fox, the fruit bat and the dog bat. Small bats include mountain bats, fish bats, hoofed bats, chrysanthemum-headed bats, big-eared bats and so on. They gathered in groups in the wind tunnel. The villagers call bat excrement "luminous sand", which can cure eye diseases. Mulan Mountain contains a lot of glaucophane. 1986 On June 3rd, Guangdong Testing and Analysis Institute qualitatively analyzed that glaucophane contains iron, aluminum, calcium, magnesium, titanium, zinc, lead, manganese, copper, chromium, nickel, zirconium, yttrium, scandium, molybdenum, dysprosium, beryllium, palladium, barium, silver, erbium and strontium.

Geological circles also believe that glaucophane's discovery confirms that Mulan Mountain is located at the junction of plates, which is of great significance to the study of plate theory. According to the general survey of the Geological Brigade of Northeast Hubei Province of Hubei Geological Bureau, Mulan Mountain area is rich in green schist, blue schist and red schist. Its varieties include albite, actinolite, epidote, chlorite, glauconite, albite, manganese aluminum garnet and so on. The building materials processed from these ores have been appraised by the relevant units in the province, with excellent quality and great mining value.
