Ouyang Xiu and the Story of Surrounding Chushan

Speaking of "the Chu River is surrounded by mountains", people familiar with it will think of Ouyang Xiu's Drunken Pavilion. There is an episode about this sentence. Ouyang Xiu, a famous litterateur in Song Dynasty, was in close contact with the wise sage of Langya Temple when he was the magistrate of Chuzhou. The monk in charge built a pavilion specially for him on the side of the mountain. Ouyang Xiu named the pavilion "Zuiweng Pavilion" and wrote an article "Zuiweng Pavilion". After the article was written, he copied six copies and asked the chief to post them at every city gate, one for each city gate, and asked passers-by to help him revise them. At the same time, he also sent six classes of gongs and drums players to beat gongs and drums at the gates of various cities to attract pedestrians. On this day, an old man in his fifties wandered around the city gate for a long time, and then went straight to the Taishou House to pay homage to Ouyang Xiu and said, "My Lord, I listened to your article, and every sentence was true, but the beginning was too wordy!" In order to let the old man put forward specific opinions, Ouyang Xiu recited the beginning: "Chuzhou is surrounded by mountains, with Wulong Mountain Scenic Resort in the east, Dafeng Mountain in the west, Huashan Mountain in the south, Mibai in the north, and its southwest peaks, and the forest is beautiful ..." Just after reading this, the woodcutter raised his hand and said, "Stop, the problem is found." Ouyang Xiu suddenly realized, and quickly said, "You mean these mountains don't need to be named?" The old woodcutter smiled and said, "So that's it. Taishou, have you ever been to the Nantianmen of Langya Mountain? Standing on the worse gate, all I see are Wulong Mountain Scenic Resort, Dafeng Mountain, Huashan Mountain, rice white and surrounded by mountains! " Ouyang Xiu heard this and said loudly, "Yes, yes!" Immediately picked up the manuscript of the article and changed it to: "The Chu River is surrounded by mountains, and its southwest peaks ..." Then read it to the woodcutter. Hearing this, the woodcutter stopped Ouyang Xiu and said, "Chu and Chu are surrounded by mountains. Five words are enough, and the rest is needless to say." Now, what will the picturesque landscape of this "Chu River Surrounded Mountain" look like? Although the mountain is not very high, it is quiet and beautiful with four distinct seasons. The ravines in the mountains are deep, the trees are lush, the flowers and plants are everywhere, the birds are singing endlessly, the Langya trees are graceful as a cover, and the drunken elm is unique in the country, with Langya River, Liuli Marsh and Qushui Stream; Let the springs such as Quanshui, Mengyingquan and Weiziquan be sweet, and the caves such as Guiyun Cave, Hongxue Cave, Chongxi Cave and Taoyuan Cave are magical. There are also ancient buildings such as Langya Temple built in the Tang Dynasty, Zuiweng Pavilion and Fengle Pavilion built in the Song Dynasty, and hundreds of cliff stone carvings since the Tang and Song Dynasties. Among them, the stone statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva painted by Wu Daozi in the Tang Dynasty and the inscription of Zuiweng Pavilion and Fengle Pavilion written by Su Dongpo in the Song Dynasty are rare treasures. The ancients called it "Eight Scenes in East Anhui", including famous mountains, famous temples, famous pavilions, famous springs, famous texts, famous monuments, famous caves and famous forests. Langya Mountain has always enjoyed the reputation of "there is no other mountain after Penglai". Six or seven miles on the mountain, I saw a small bridge running water, and the source of the stream was close at hand, which was a brewing spring. The asphalt road stopped, but the bridge was an antique bluestone road. Although the Zuiweng Pavilion near the spring is hidden in the courtyard, the upturned pavilion corner is really visible. "Weng has been gone for more than a hundred years, and his hometown is still there; Six or seven miles on the mountain, the pavilion is not lonely. " A pair of couplets hanging on the pavilion column shows the true face of the garden, and there are "drunken nine scenes" in the small and chic courtyard for people to play with carefully. There are nine bends in front of the pavilion, and the running water does not rot; The "Erxian Hall" behind the pavilion commemorates Ouyang Xiu and Wang Yucheng, two governors of the Song Dynasty. The nearby Baosong Xinzhai is dedicated to the stone carvings of "Irving Perilla" and "Drunk Pavilion". The local people who worship and respect religion covered this "Song Bao" with glass and built a pavilion to protect it from the wind and rain. Out of Tingxi, it is a thousand-year-old tree "Oumei" more than ten meters high. The branches are full of beautiful flowers, and the trees are red, protecting the flowers.
