Wei Zi and Eunuch

The origin of the name of the Forbidden City

The name of the Forbidden City comes from the Purple Star Tower. Ancient astronomers in China once divided the stars in the sky into three constellations, twenty-eight constellations and other constellations. The three walls include Taiwei Garden, Ziwei Garden and Tianshi Garden. Ziweiyuan is in the middle of the three yuan.

According to the long-term observation of celestial bodies in space, ancient astronomy in China believed that Wei Zixing was located in the middle of the sky and its position was eternal, so it became a constellation representing the Emperor of Heaven. This is the residence of the Emperor of Heaven. Therefore, the heavenly palace where the Emperor of Heaven lives is the Purple Palace.

In order to maintain their authority and dignity and consider their own safety, the emperors of Ming and Qing dynasties built magnificent and heavily guarded palaces. Except the ladies-in-waiting, eunuchs and guards who serve them, only summoned officials and authorized personnel can enter. This is a place where outsiders can't cross the border. Therefore, the imperial palaces in Ming and Qing Dynasties were both called Purple Palace and Forbidden Area, so they were called Forbidden City.

The reason why Wangfujing got its name.

Wangfujing Street is one of the most famous streets in Beijing. During the Liao and Jin Dynasties, this was a desolate village. After the Yuan Dynasty made Beijing its capital, the population gradually became dense. In the Ming Dynasty, from the 15th year of Yongle (14 17), the construction of 10 Wang Fu was started, and it was completed by the end of 18, so this street is also called the Ten Wang Fu.

After the demise of the Ming Dynasty, Wang Fu was gradually abandoned, and the name "Ten Wang Fu" no longer existed, and more vendors and shops appeared. People used to call it Wang Fu Street.

During the reign of Guangxu and Xuantong in Qing Dynasty, there were oil and salt shops, rice noodle shops, noodle shops, porridge stalls, rice shops, antique shops, medicine shops and an "official hall" on both sides of the street.

19 15 when the Beiyang government drew the detailed map of the four cities in the suburbs of Beijing, this street was divided into three sections: the northern section was still called Wang Fu Street, the middle section was renamed Bamiancao, and the southern section was called Wangfujing Street because of a sweet well. Wangfujing Street, we mean the whole street.

The origin of the name of Chang 'an Street

When most of the Yuan Dynasty was completed in A.D. 1267, Chang 'an Street was called Shuncheng Street. At that time, Chang 'an Avenue was just an ordinary street in the wall of Nancheng. After more than 700 years of development, it has now become a very spacious street.

In A.D. 1260, Kublai Khan of Yuan Shizu went south from the Mongolian Plateau to the capital of the Jin Dynasty, which is now Beijing.
