Yingtianmen Wei Zi Palace

Yingtianmen is the largest city gate building in the Sui and Tang Dynasties, and it is also the only city gate with the specifications of "Three Questions of the Emperor" in the Sui and Tang Dynasties (the capital city gate with the highest etiquette in ancient China was the highest etiquette enjoyed by the emperor). Our present Wumen Gate of the Forbidden City in Beijing was built according to its architectural form, and its scale was the largest in the Sui and Tang Dynasties.

It was built in the first year of Yang Di the Great. It was the main entrance of Wei Zi Palace in Sui and Tang Dynasties. The present address is located between Luoyang Capital Museum and Luoyang Daily. Its volume can be described as a very huge building in ancient China. Its original name was Zetianmen. Later, in order to avoid Wu Zetian's anonymity, Tang Zhongzong changed Zetianmen to yingtianmen. Yingtianmen is a huge "concave"-shaped building complex, which consists of a gatehouse, a flower house, an east-west pavilion and a cloister. This magnificent tower is 137 meters long and about 35.3 meters high, which can be called modern.

The function of yingtianmen is mainly as an important place for the imperial court to hold imperial ceremonies such as the emperor's accession to the throne, the reform of the Yuan Dynasty, amnesty, banquets and meeting with foreign envoys. For example, Tang Gaozong captured Baekje King, Wu Zetian proclaimed himself here, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty received Japanese envoys in the Tang Dynasty here, and other important national ceremonies were held here to welcome Tianmen, which is equivalent to the present Jingwumen.

The existence of yingtianmen is the symbol of the East Capital, and its construction scale and use are the highest level in the Sui and Tang Dynasties. Moreover, such a magnificent architectural pattern has a far-reaching impact on the capital construction of later generations, so yingtianmen is well-deserved as the first country in Sui and Tang Dynasties.
