Can Lagerstroemia indica be grafted with Jiabao fruit tree?

The trunks of Jiabao fruit and Lagerstroemia indica are smooth, but this does not mean that Lagerstroemia indica is suitable for grafting with Jiaguofu. The reason for this is the following：

Grafting, the first thing to look at is the botanical classification of two tree species. There are still some differences in plant classification between Jiabao fruit and Lagerstroemia indica.

Although they belong to the same species in boundary, phylum and class and belong to Myrtaceae, they belong to different families and genera. Lagerstroemia belongs to Lagerstroemia of Myrtaceae, and Jiabao belongs to Prunus of Myrtaceae.

When plants of different tree species are grafted with each other, there is often a problem of poor compatibility, that is, the wound is difficult to heal after grafting, so the survival rate of grafting is very low.

The most important tree species is Garbo fruit, which itself is difficult to graft. Even if Jiabao fruit belongs to the same family, the survival rate will not be very high.

I have seen a saying before that Jiabao fruits should be grafted under the trunk, and the branches are 5cm below their trunk. If it is a perennial fruit, it is impossible to change their varieties with high grafting of other fruit trees. The reason is that Jiabao fruit grows on trunks and branches.

For this statement, I personally think it is highly credible, because if you are in a high position when grafting, with the continuous growth of tree age, the trunk of Jiabao fruit will continue to grow in the future, and their fruits are still in the original trunk, belonging to rootstocks, not scions.

Conclusion: Lagerstroemia indica and Jiabao fruit trees are not closely related, so it is difficult to heal the wound by forced grafting. In addition, Jiabao fruit itself is also a difficult tree species to graft. Personally, I think the survival rate of the two kinds of grafting is not optimistic. Jiabao fruit is more suitable for grafting with other varieties belonging to the same genus, and the survival rate is relatively high.
