Who is Sanqing?

Sanqing refers to yuanshi county Tianzun, Lingbao Tianzun and Taishang Laojun respectively.

Taoism believes that Sanqing lives in an extremely remote and wonderful fairy world, managing countless other gods and even everything, such as supervising human social life. Among them, Yuanshi Tianzun has the highest status. He is the creator of the whole universe and is equivalent to a Chinese god.

As for Lingbao Tianzun, in order to meet the demands of the lower class, Taoism awarded him to the Jade Emperor in Chinese folk beliefs. Most people think that he is the ancestor of Taoism, Lao Zi.

Their statues should be enshrined in the usual Taoist temple, and a special place of worship should be built for them, called Sanqing Hall or Sanqing Palace. They are arranged in the following order: in the middle is the Buddha statue of Yuan Dynasty, with empty left hand and empty right hand, symbolizing the primitive state of the world.

On the left of the primitive Buddha is Lingbao Buddha, holding a mirror of yin and yang in his hand, symbolizing the state when the world just came out of chaos; On the right is the moral Buddha, holding a fan with a mirror of yin and yang, symbolizing the initial state of the world being created. In Taoist art, there are many sculptures and portraits about Sanqing, and many fine works are still preserved.

It was only in the Jin Dynasty that the Covenant of the Buddha at the beginning of the Yuan Dynasty appeared among the Taoist gods. It is produced by the green gasification of red mixed caves. Every time the doomsday ends and the world opens, they come out to teach secret passages and rob people. Lingbao Tianzun appeared among Taoist gods, but it appeared later than Yuanshi Tianzun in the Southern and Northern Dynasties. The moral Buddha is Laozi, that is, the old gentleman on the throne. In order to form the hierarchical sequence of respecting gods in Sanqing, it is said that it was born from the mysterious gasification.

In fact, Taoism respected the old gentleman in Taishang as the leader from the time of its establishment, and then said that he was the king of the gods in Wudu; I am the Lord of flying immortals, I have become the supreme god, and I am often in two places, without the world. However, in the Sanqing, its position was the lowest, which obviously did not conform to all Taoist beliefs, so it was later that the old gentleman called "one gasification and three rectifications".
