Jianghan University, located in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, is a comprehensive university, which implements the * * * school-running system of co-construction of provinces and cities and giving priority to cities, and has been selected as a "double-first-class" university in Hubei Province to build a "domestic first-class discipline construction university".

The school's predecessor was Jianghan University and Hankou Branch of Huazhong University of Science and Technology founded by 198 1, Wuhan Education College founded by 1952, and Wuhan Staff Medical College founded by 1958.

In March 2009, with the approval of Hubei Provincial People's Government, Hubei Institute of Chemistry was merged into Jianghan University.
