How to modulate and thresh seeds?

The purpose of seed modulation is to obtain pure and excellent seeds suitable for sowing or storage. Preparations include threshing, seed cleaning, grading, drying, etc. Preparation methods vary with seed types and must be handled correctly to ensure seed quality.

Threshing method:

The seeds of most horticultural plants need to be removed before storage or sowing, otherwise they will deteriorate due to meat decay.

1. Drying threshing methods include natural drying and artificial drying. Natural drying threshing involves spreading the fruit into a thin layer and then drying it in the sun or air. Used for fruit or broken shell, seed or manual beating or rolling collection; Artificial drying threshing promotes fruit drying through artificial ventilation and heating. This method is usually used for seeds of dried fruits, pods and cones.

2. The water washing threshing method is suitable for fleshy fruits and has no use value. When the fruit is yellow or red, take it out and soak it in water. When the succulent fruit becomes soft, beat it with a stick to separate the pulp from the seeds. Rinse with clear water and dry in the shade or air. Seeds can also be extracted by composting. For example, putting fruit in a container or piling it in the shade will make the pulp soft and rotten. The stacking thickness is 25 ~ 35cm, and the stacking temperature is 25~30℃. Because the heap temperature is higher than 30℃, seeds are easy to lose vitality. Therefore, when stacking, you should always turn over or spray water to cool down. When the pulp becomes soft and rotten, crush the pulp and seeds and wash them with clear water. Take out the seeds and dry them in the shade or air. If the pulp is valuable, such as hawthorn, wild apple and wild grape, it can be taken in combination with processing technology. However, high temperature (above 45℃), strong alkali, strong acid and mechanical damage should be prevented to avoid affecting seed germination rate. (Seed quality inspection) Seed quality includes genetic quality and sowing quality. The seed quality inspection mentioned here is to detect the sowing quality of various horticultural plant seeds by scientific methods, and provide scientific basis for sowing and seedling raising through quality inspection. Seed quality inspection includes seed purity, 1000-grain weight, water content, germination rate, germination potential, vigor, fineness, infection rate of pests and diseases, etc.

The above is the introduction of seed modulation threshing method for your reference and learning, hoping to help you.
