The level of diplomatic relations between China and Cuba

The diplomatic relations between China and Cuba are at the ambassadorial level.

Cuba is the first Latin American country to establish diplomatic relations with China and the first country in the Western Hemisphere to establish diplomatic relations with New China. 1On September 2nd, 960, Castro announced that Cuba had severed relations with Taiwan Province Province and expressed his willingness to establish diplomatic relations with the people of China. On September 28th of the same year, the Chinese and Cuban governments issued a joint communique confirming the establishment of diplomatic relations.

In recent years, bilateral trade between China and Cuba has maintained a good momentum of development. At present, China is Cuba's largest trading partner and Cuba is China's second largest trading partner in the Caribbean. In 20021year, the trade volume between China and Cuba was102.2 billion USD, up by 7.2% year-on-year, of which China imported 446 million USD, down by 5 1% year-on-year, and exported 576 million USD, up by 19.2% year-on-year. China mainly exports electromechanical, high-tech, textile and chemical products, and mainly imports nickel, sugar, wine and scrap metal.
