Propagation method of Lagerstroemia indica

Lagerstroemia indica, also known as Itchy Flower, Purple Flower, Myrica rubra and Hundred Days Red. The simplest cutting method of Lagerstroemia indica is to use hard branches, or to use tender branches or old branches. It is a shrub or small tree of Lagerstroemia speciosa, belonging to Lysimachiaceae. As an ornamental tree species, it is common in gardens and courtyards, and is also cultivated as a bonsai. This paper introduces the simplest cutting propagation method of Lagerstroemia indica.

First, hardwood cutting.

1. Cutting season

Usually, it should be carried out before the branches germinate in spring, and cutting can be carried out in the south from mid-March to early April.

Prepare tools and soil

Prepare pruning shears, flower pots and soil for disinfection and sterilization. The soil should be fertile, deep, loose and breathable sandy loam, and the mixed soil of humus and sandy soil can be used.

Step 3: Prepare cuttings.

With a sterilized knife, cut off healthy annual branches with good lignification from the roots of young trees or big trees, cut into cuttings about 10 ~ 15cm long, cut off most leaves of the branches, and keep the top 1 or 3 leaves.

4. Cutting process

The depth of cutting into the soil should be 8 to 13 cm, then water is poured once and covered with plastic film or reed curtain.

5. Post maintenance

After cutting, do a good job of heat preservation and moisture preservation, spray water once a day to keep the soil moist, and the relative humidity of the air is above 70%. After half a month, it can take root and survive. After the cuttings survive, remove the plastic film or reed curtain, gradually increase the light, and fertilize after 2 months.

Second, shoot cutting.

In order to use tender branches for cutting in July and August, the selected cuttings are coarse semi-lignified branches without pests and diseases, the length of cuttings is about 10 cm, and two or three leaves are left at the top.

Cut the prepared culture medium to a depth of 8 cm, water it once after cutting, cover it with plastic film, and shade it with a sunshade net. Usually/kloc-can take root after 0/5 to 20 days, then remove the plastic film and sunshade net and start normal maintenance.
