The FY- 1B satellite was launched by the Long March 4 rocket on September 3, 1990. Six solar panels are symmetrically installed on the outer side of the satellite. The satellite is 900 kilometers high, with an inclination of 99, with a period of 102.86 minutes. The satellite orbits the earth once a day. This is an experimental meteorological satellite.

The remote sensor carried on the satellite has good imaging performance, and the experimental data and operating experience obtained provide meaningful data for the development and management of the subsequent satellite.
