What kind of bear is Xiong Er?

Although Xiong Dahe and Xiong Er have patterns on their chests, they don't have the most standard V-shaped patterns of black bears, so judging from this point alone, it is unlikely that Xiong Dahe and Xiong Er are black bears. Secondly, from the head shape and coat color, Xiong Dahe Xiong Er is larger in size and longer in front paws, which is actually more like a typical brown bear.

Because the story of Bears Come and Go takes place in the northeast, the prototype of Xiong Er Xiongda is probably Ussuri Brown Bear. Ussuri brown bear is also called "human bear" in Northeast China, because it can walk upright like a human, and its front feet can skillfully pick up fruits, which is more in line with the image of Xiong Er.

Living habits of Ussuri brown bear

Ussuri brown bear is a lonely animal. Except in estrus, it usually lives alone and roams in coniferous forests all day looking for food. This animal has a variety of feeding habits, mainly phytophagy. It feeds on dried fruits (acorns, beeches and seeds), berries, wild fruits, buds, grasses, tubers and roots, mushrooms, small mammals and fish. It can also kill large animals such as deer and occasionally eat rotting corpses or sick deer.

It is distributed in the amur river (Heilongjiang) valley, north to the Stanov Mountains (outer Xing 'an Mountains), south to the Korean Peninsula and northern Liaoning, west to the Ya 'Bronoff Mountains, and east to the sea, including Sakhalin Island (sakhalin island) and Chantal Islands. Distributed in northeast China and Japan, five subpopulations have been identified in Hokkaido Island, Japan.
