In my personal opinion, the reason why ordinary people in China know the twelve constellations actually stems from the introduction of the Japanese cartoon Saint saint seiya. It can be proved that China people basically read Virgo as Virgo, because the introduction of animation translation directly translated Japanese Virgo, without reference to astronomical books.
