Fortune Telling Collection - Horoscope - Excuse me, how did the English name come from?

Excuse me, how did the English name come from?

The first method is to choose an English name that is "homophonic" with the Chinese name. For example, Li Mei can be pronounced as May Li, and "Mei" is just homophonic with May. Here are four examples for your reference. Many English-Chinese dictionaries have lists of English names in their appendices. You can find a roughly homophonic English name according to the Chinese pronunciation of your name. However, this method has great limitations. Most Chinese names have no homophonic English names, so we can only consider the other two methods.

(1) Li Mei-Li Mei

② Zhang Lei-Zhang Ruiping

③ Liu Kaiwen-Liu Kaiwen

④ Wu Dawei-Wu Dawei

The second method is to choose a favorite English name according to its internal meaning. Many English names come from Greek mythology, Roman mythology and the Bible, so they have some internal meanings. I saw the internal meanings of common English names on a website a long time ago, and there are probably dozens of them. I only remember four of them. Please see below. If you are interested in this question, please search online. I really don't remember the address of that website.

(1) Andrew-said strong.

(2) (2) frank-said freedom.

(3) (3) Catherine-said purity.

(4) (4) Helen-said light.

The third method is: choose a name of another country, or create one yourself. For example, I have a classmate in Macau who named a Portuguese girl Emilia, and I have a netizen in Shanghai whose English name is Skila, who created it herself. You can try to pronounce these two names. They are really nice. However, when you decide to create your own name, you'd better consult foreign friends, lest your name contain some derogatory meanings.

When this post was written here, I suddenly thought of a small problem: English names that are not commonly used are actually very good, such as Priscilla, the English name of Hong Kong star Priscilla Chan, which is not commonly used but elegant, and I like it very much. Therefore, if the above three methods are not suitable for you, you might as well choose a relatively uncommon English name.
