Will China deploy a global satellite Internet system?

Deployment has begun.

On March 2, it was learned that China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation Limited was deploying a constellation of low-orbit communication satellites. In the first stage, 54 satellites will be built, and then in the second stage, the system capacity will be smoothly transferred, and the number of satellites will eventually exceed 300.

Bao Weimin, member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and director of the Science and Technology Committee of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, said that he plans to fully launch the global mobile broadband satellite Internet system this year. Upon completion, it will become a global seamless spatial information network infrastructure, providing Internet transmission services for fixed ground, hand-held mobile, vehicle-mounted, ship-borne and airborne terminals.

Bao Weimin said that this satellite Internet system can realize the communication support capability of combining broadband and narrowband in deep ocean, North and South poles and the "Belt and Road" region. Through this system, anyone or anything anywhere on the earth can realize information interconnection at any time.

The global mobile broadband satellite Internet system will realize six applications:

-Intelligent terminal communication, which supports direct access of commercial mobile phones to satellite constellations, provides instant messaging services such as high-definition voice service and WeChat, and provides e-mail services, which can be applied to scientific investigation, geological exploration, emergency rescue and disaster relief, emergency support and other scenarios;

-Internet access, providing low-latency data service capabilities, enabling users to enjoy online experiences similar to terrestrial networks, and serving the markets such as field work, distance education and telemedicine;

-Internet of Things access, serving low-energy and miniaturized Internet of Things terminals, meeting the needs of industries such as environmental monitoring, marine logistics, traffic management and hazardous chemicals monitoring, and realizing the combination of traditional industries and information industries;

-Hot spot information push, which uses the characteristics of satellite wide coverage to realize real-time broadcast and push of cultural propaganda, disaster early warning, weather broadcast, traffic broadcast and other information;

—— Navigation enhancement, forwarding Beidou satellite differential correction information, providing more accurate and reliable location services for airborne and vehicle-mounted positioning terminals to meet the needs of unmanned driving, precision agriculture, drone control, etc.

-Aviation navigation and monitoring, realizing the full-cycle tracking of global aircraft and ships, providing value-added services of statistical data, and improving the safety and reliability of global transportation capacity.
