Introduction to Pluto

Pluto (asteroid number: 134340 Pluto; ; Astronomical code:, Unicode code: U+2647) is a dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt. Pluto was the first kuiper belt object to be discovered. Pluto is the largest and second largest dwarf planet in the solar system. Among the celestial bodies directly orbiting the sun, Pluto ranks ninth in volume and tenth in mass. Pluto is the largest overseas celestial body, second only to Venus in a discrete disk. Like other celestial bodies in the Kuiper Belt, Pluto is mainly composed of rocks and ice. Pluto is relatively small, with only one-sixth the mass and one-third the volume of the moon. Pluto's orbital eccentricity and inclination are very high, with perihelion of 30 astronomical units (4.4 billion kilometers) and apohelion of 49 astronomical units (7.4 billion kilometers). Therefore, Pluto periodically enters the interior of Neptune's orbit. Neptune and Pluto will not collide because of orbital resonance. Judging from the average distance from Pluto to the sun, it takes 5.5 hours for light to reach Pluto.

Another name
