This song, in a gradual form, is magnificent and has a sonorous rhythm. 1954 In March, it won the first prize in the "National Pop Song Selection in Recent Three Years" organized by the Ministry of Culture and the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles. It was a very popular song.

The lyrics were originally a war poem written by Ma, then the political instructor of the artillery force, which inspired composer Zhou's creative desire through the telegram contained in Xinhua News Agency's Talk about Several Soldiers in Chinese people's Volunteer Army. This poem, which was set to music, was first published in Current Affairs Handbook, and its title was "Defeating the Wolf of American Imperialism". Later, the composer changed the title of the song to "Battle Hymn of Chinese people's Volunteer Army".
