What is a focus interview?

Focus interview is an in-depth news report column launched by CCTV comprehensive channel in April 1994. Through investigation, tracking and hidden interviews, the program exposes illegal and criminal acts in many aspects of social life and realizes the public opinion supervision function of TV news programs.

The program premiered on CCTV Comprehensive Channel from April 1994 to June 1 Sunday 19: 40. On may 1 day, 2003, due to the trial broadcast of CCTV news channel, the program was broadcast on CCTV comprehensive channel and CCTV news channel at 9: 40 every day.

Program background

1992 After the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of China was held, Ding Guangen proposed to strengthen the critical work. He proposed inviting experts, scholars, workers, farmers and cadres to discuss social hot issues together and guide public opinion through discussion.

During the period of 1993, in the arrangement of propaganda work in Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China, it was proposed to strengthen news comments and discuss some hot issues. According to this requirement, the program Focus Interview came into being.

At the beginning of February, 1994, the entrepreneurs of Focus Interview held their first formal preparatory meeting in the Media Conference Center. Sun Yusheng, deputy director Yuan, producer Liang Jianzeng, and Zhang Infantry, who just served as the director of the newly established news commentary department, took the lead for the establishment of this new column for the first time.
