Professor Pierre, a marine biologist, tracked down a mysterious sea monster that collided with the Canadian whaling ship and loyal servant Conseil, and the three were captured by the Nautilus.

When he met Nemo, the captain of the Nautilus, Nemo showed the professor around the inner cabin of the submarine. The professor was deeply impressed by Nemo's knowledge, library collection, scientific and technological level, energy, wealth and even freedom to fly away from all political power.
