Generally, air drying will not cause too many cracks. If you want to speed up the drying, you can use sunlight or high wattage incandescent lamps. If you are worried about cracks, you can dip your fingers in water to smooth the surface.

When drying, clay will shrink to a certain extent, resulting in a decrease in volume. If it is because gravity naturally droops when placed, you can pad some fillers under it before using clay, and the materials are not limited. When I make mud, I sometimes design some brackets with cardboard, or I can stick some putty on the skeleton first and make AB soil into the basic shape to solve it. If the deformation is caused by improper placement, the skeleton can grow a section in advance before making, or the connecting rod can be fixed with a glue stick when making, so that it can be inserted on the foam when placing.

The details are trimmed with a modeling knife and a pen knife. First, draw a pattern on clay with a pencil, and then carve it with a knife. Finally, use double-sided tape to stick sandpaper on the glue stick for polishing. Of course, it is more difficult to polish small details with a polishing rod. If it is a small surface, you can scrape it flat with a pen knife. If you can, you must use a sander. It is very convenient to make details. Some curved surface sanders that are difficult to complete with pens and knives can also be easily solved. But the sander is not used for clay, because clay is too soft and easily collapses even if it is dry. AB putty is better.

If you are familiar with the sunken eye socket, you can use a curved surface modeling knife to shape it when the eye socket is not dry, press it at the corner of your eye and then slowly build a curved surface to the position of your eyes, but this is a test of patience and skill. It is recommended to use a hanging mill. After the clay is dried, various curved surfaces can be easily ground, and the details are very delicate.
