How many ocean-going fleets does Russia have? How many large fleets does the United States have?

After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, Russia inherited 80% of the naval forces of the former Soviet Union. On this basis, the Russian navy was established in 1992. At present, the Russian navy still maintains the organizational structure of the former Soviet Union, with four fleets and an independent fleet, namely the Northern Fleet, the Pacific Fleet, the Baltic Fleet, the Black Sea Fleet and the Caspian Fleet. Today's Russian navy is not the same as the former Soviet Union. Affected by the Russian economic crisis and the aging of ships and planes, the combat strength of the Russian navy has been greatly weakened. The total number of naval posts has been reduced from 450,000 to more than 220,000 now, and the total number of ships has been reduced by 50%. Only nuclear-powered submarines have retired more than 200 ships, especially four Kiev-class multi-purpose aircraft carriers and two Moscow ships built by the former Soviet Union.

B-class helicopter carrier is discharged from active service or sealed up due to loss of combat effectiveness; Affected by the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the Baltic Fleet lost nearly 80% of its naval bases and 30% of its airports, and its combat capability has fallen behind the navies of Germany, Sweden, Poland and NATO. Due to Ukraine's independence, the Black Sea Fleet lost most of the naval bases and land facilities in Crimea. Russia and Ukraine have great differences on the ownership of the Sevastopol naval base, which is still unresolved. In recent years, a large number of Russian navy ships have been retired, but there are only a handful of new service ships. According to Russian official announcement, since 1992, only more than 30 ships of various types have joined the naval sequence, some of which were built before the disintegration of the Soviet Union. After several years of drastic reduction and adjustment, the strength of Russian navy has been greatly weakened, but in terms of overall combat capability, it still occupies a prominent position among the world's naval powers.

First of all, we have a strong strategic nuclear force at sea. The strategic nuclear force of the Russian navy is an important part of Russia's "trinity" strategic deterrent force, and the existing ballistic missile strategic nuclear submarines are twice as large as those of the US navy.

Secondly, the main battle surface ships are highly modernized. The Russian navy has more than 130 main surface combat ships above missile frigates. The aircraft carrier Kuznetsov, the Glorious and Kirov guided missile cruisers, the modern and fearless guided missile destroyers, the Crivatz guided missile frigates and a considerable number of offshore defensive frigates constitute the main body of the Russian navy's maritime combat forces, all of which were built in the late Soviet Union, with short service time, high degree of modernization and strong combat capability.

In addition, the Marine Corps is well-equipped and has strong combat effectiveness. At present, the Russian navy has 1 marine division and 3 marine brigades, with a total strength exceeding 1 10,000. In recent years, with the drastic streamlining of the Russian navy, the Marine Corps has not been affected, but has been comprehensively strengthened in personnel replenishment, weapons and equipment, training and so on. During the Chechen war, Russia sent marines from various fleets to fight in Chechnya many times, which made this unit stand the test of actual combat. At present, the Russian Marine Corps has become an important part of Russian mobile combat forces.

Russia is close to two oceans, 13 sea, and its unique geographical environment objectively requires a strong maritime armed force. Peter the Great's famous saying "Without a strong navy, there would be no strong Russia" is deeply rooted in today's Russian ideology. Therefore, maintaining the status of a great naval power and establishing a navy with a moderate scale suitable for the country's economic strength will become the main direction for the development of the Russian navy in the future.
