If you or your children plan to dress up as witches this Halloween, consider making your own costumes. Doing it yourself not only saves money, but also is full of fun. Witch hat occupies a very important position in the whole costume. The advantage of homemade witch hat is that you can add personalized elements. It doesn't matter even if you can't sew. Follow the guide below to learn how to make a witch hat!

Part 1: making a cone

1, prepare materials. The method of making witch hats is very simple, and few materials are needed. Before you start, prepare the following materials: black craft foam.

line

scissors

mild steel wire

Duct tape

riband

Decorative materials such as feathers or artificial fur.

Plastic spiders, buttons, bows and other decorations

2. Measure the size and cut the foam into a cone. Tie one end of the thread to the pen, and fix the other end to a corner of foam cotton. Pick up the pen and pull the thread until it is about 10 cm. Draw the bottom of the cone with lines and strokes. Decide the height of the hat according to your own preferences. When drawing the bottom of the cone arc, cut the cone along this line with scissors. The cut foam is triangular and the bottom is arc.

You can cut the edges of foam cotton more neatly with a utility knife. If not, ordinary scissors will do.

3. Cut the wire. Cut a piece of iron wire slightly shorter than the conical edge. You can measure the length from the bottom of the cone to the vertex, and then determine the length of the wire. You can also lean the thread against the foam and cut it directly after straightening.

4. Insert the wire in the center of the cone. Place the wire in the center of the cone so that the areas on both sides of the wire are equal. One end of the wire should be close to the conical spire and the other end should be close to the bottom of the arc. Then cut out a duct tape slightly longer than the wire and stick it vertically on the wire. The ends of the tape must be longer than the ends of the wire. In this way, when wearing a hat, the wires will not come out of the top of the hat and will not poke your head.

After fixing the wire with tape, cut off the excess tape. The tape can't come out from the edge of the foam.

5. Stick the adhesive tape on one side of the cone. You also need to tape the two sides of the cone together to form a cone. Cut a piece of tape and stick it on the straight edge of the cone. Then stick another tape on this tape so that the two tapes partially overlap. Turn the other side of the cone upside down and stick it on the base glue, press and fix it, and connect the two sides together.

When connecting the two sides of the cone, the tape and wires must be inside the hat.

Part 2: Making brim

1. Measure and cut the brim. Put another piece of foam on the table and fix one end of the thread in the center of the foam. Pick up the pen with the thread tied, straighten the thread and draw a circle on the foam. This circle is the brim of a conical hat, so it must be drawn large enough. Cut a circle along the line of the painting. Scissors should be cut as close to the line as possible and cut neatly and evenly. If they are chewed like dogs, it will affect the beauty of hats.

2. Blow the brim flat with a hot air gun or a hair dryer. Spread the cut circular foam flat on the table, and blow it against the foam with a hot air blower or a hair dryer to flatten the upturned edge. If the foam is flat, you can ignore this step. You can also put some heavy books on the foam. After a few hours or a night, the round foam cotton will be flattened.

3. Cut in the center of the circular foam cotton. Fold round foam cotton in half along the center line so that the edges are completely coincident. Cut a hole at the center of the circle and widen it continuously. Continue to cut until a small circle appears in the middle of the circular foam. Then, cut four openings at the edge of the inner ring to increase the elasticity of the brim. The circle in the middle must be big enough to fit over your head, but not beyond your head circumference, otherwise the hat will be too loose.

4. Check whether the brim size is appropriate. Put the brim on your head to make sure it is the right size, and then proceed to the following steps. If it feels tight, you can adjust it again. If it's too loose, you'll have to take another piece of foam and cut the brim again.

Part 3: Decorative hats

1. Cover the joint of the cone with ribbon. Don't put a hat on the cone yet. You should cover the seam on the cone with a black ribbon. Hot melt adhesive can be used to stick adhesive tape to joints. Hot melt glue gun must fully preheat the ribbon before sticking it.

Place the glue outlet of the glue gun near the foam, and then press the wrench. If the glue gun is too far away from the foam, the hot melt adhesive will partially harden before being coated on the hat.

2. Stick the edge on the cone. At this step, the brim is still fixed with hot melt adhesive. Apply hot melt adhesive to the bottom of the cone, then put on the brim and press it firmly. When sticking the brim, pay attention to whether the cone is located in the center of the brim.

If you want to decorate this hat, stick feathers or artificial fur where the brim meets the cone. Just apply hot melt adhesive to the bottom of the cone and then stick the decorations on it.

3. Bend the hat into the shape you like. When the hat is finished and the glue is dry, you can bend the hat slightly according to your own ideas. Because the hat is covered with wire, you can bend it or flatten it. Bend the hat from two or three parts of the cone to make it look vicissitudes.

4. Make the hat more personal. You can also use other decorations to make the witch hat more distinctive, such as sticking plastic spiders, bows, buttons and other decorations. Use your imagination and choose decorations that can add icing on the cake. Any ornament can be glued to the hat with hot melt adhesive.

Warning Be careful when using hot melt glue gun! Sticking hot melt adhesive to the skin is not only painful, but also may cause burns.
