I have been playing the game for 73 hours since it was released, and I have completed all the side lines, commissions and two endings (stars and the sun) on the map. From the entanglement of various tasks, I spied some incompetence of Polish donkeys, and also fell into the infinite imagination brought to me by the city of night.

This analysis does not include the traditional game part as far as possible, and only tries to discuss the plot from the perspectives of narrative structure, expression techniques and theme, and talk about my views.

The analysis probably includes three parts, the first is to comment on all the plots displayed in the game at present, the second is to talk about all the "task lines" in the game, and the third is to guess the hidden lines in the game. Since I only played the content for a week, it is difficult to understand all the options and words in the process of playing, so if there are any mistakes and omissions, please also talk about your own views.

The city of night, the pearl of the west coast

When the Polish donkey moved the location of the story from the "wizard world" to this "pearl of the west coast", the protagonist and narrative style of the story changed greatly. Although we are operating a "V" possessed by silver hand in the game world, compared with the city of night, we just pass by in a hurry. This city full of desire and madness is the absolute protagonist in the story.

Tramstadt

This change of narrative subject has greatly changed the narrative style and narrative technique of the game. Wizard 3 is a novel about Geralt's search for his daughter. Although you will meet Dande Lynn, Tracy, Ye Naifa and other partners in this journey, they are only witnesses or partners of your story, and Geralt is the only protagonist. (This is not the case in Blood and Wine and Heart of Stone. )

Speaking of Cyberpunk 2077, this story is more like a collection of short stories. Jack, Rogge, Kerry, Judy, Pan An, River, Takemura, Hanako Lanban, Lai Xuan and others all have clear goals and have changed in their own stories. They are all sentient beings in the Cyberpunk world. If we look more widely, Regina, Okada, Gezi and other intermediaries, AI such as Drammen and Ott, manipulated mayors, street veterans and dismantled vending machines are all telling their stories.

These independent stories came to the stage because of V's action, and * * * presented the protagonist of "The City that Never Sleeps".

This narrative technique is undoubtedly much more difficult than a single novel, and the final effect varies from person to person. Some people say that the main line is too short, the transformation of the silver hand is too abrupt and the role is not full enough. Others think that the characters in the branch lines are very three-dimensional, and the transformation of the silver hand can be presented in each branch line or even in each commission. Some people even find the charm of "soul-style" narrative from seemingly independent entrusted tasks, trying to piece together a "grand story" hidden under the text.

It is understandable that players have different views on the plot because of different gameplay, but it is biased to think that the plot of this game is far less than that of Wizard 3. The narrative technique of Cyberpunk 2077 is far more difficult than that of Wizard 3. It needs to be considered that Wizard 3 is based on the original novel and the first two works, while the city that never sleeps needs to rebuild its world view and story. The help provided by the prototype board game is extremely limited. Many excellent characters are original and players can make them in a very limited time (3-4 hours story line).

City of disappointment

In this work, it takes 40-50 hours to experience all the main lines and branches of the city of night. Different committees have built a unique handmade scene with a short story, which shows the ambition of the Polish donkey. They tried to fill every corner of the city that never sleeps through this fierce stacking method, telling the story of the city that never sleeps with different protagonists, but did not give enough guidance to the players' behavior. Moreover, considering the huge and complex city of the night, so many characters take turns to appear, and the performance of this protagonist is still lacking.

For example, the performance of different gangs I am obsessed with is lacking. Every middleman's background and personality can extend a sufficient story line, and the struggle between the major companies wandering in the city that never sleeps is more or less obscure. The story of the Adekado tribe needs to be supplemented. Considering the narrative technique of this book, I expect the Polish donkey to make up more stories to make the city of night more vivid (at least add the track system back).

Silver hand's "V" played by the player seems to be the protagonist of the story, and he can write his own legend, but the real legend of the city of the night is in the cemetery, even the protagonist is no exception. (The Polish donkey at the end of the story said something similar through the mouth of the silver hand-do you want everyone to be safe? Here? In the city of the night? It doesn't exist. )

Such an "anti-climax" ending will certainly arouse the resentment of many players, but in my opinion, I think the donkey is restrained enough and courageous enough because it is not commercialized. At the end of Kerry's story line, the Polish donkey burned Kerry's producer's boat named "Wizard", which also showed their attitude.

"Do you think you cheated death? But in fact, death deceived you. " In the city of night, fate can hardly be changed. Angry? If you are angry, fight back and burn everything to ashes. (So the player's search strategy played a hidden ending)

However, the city of night will still stand there. One barren Sakamoto will fall and another barren Sakamoto will stand up, and nothing will change.

City of Cyberpunk

The contents discussed in Cyberpunk's works can be roughly divided into two directions. One is to discuss the self-cognition of human nature, consciousness, memory and soul internally, and the other is to discuss social problems such as company's control over society and human alienation externally. These two directions are related to the stories of different characters in The City that Never Sleeps, and the contents discussed are concrete and substantial enough, but the final product may be a bit tasteless.

Do humans really have souls? If there is technology that can digitize all human consciousness and copy it perfectly, then who am I after copying? Such a question is Cyberpunk enough, but the Polish donkey seems to give a fixed answer. In the game, the soul killer killed V and Silverhand once and brought them back to this world. )

At the pier in the North District, V will meet an "all-metal monk" and ask similar questions. However, the monk's answer is that if the amount of data can face his own suffering, then the Buddha will admit his existence. Generally, there is a character who is superior to others in the story, which can basically be regarded as the embodiment of the author. Moreover, the silver hand will also appear here and say-even if I am a "replica of the silver hand", then I am an independent me. Personally, I think this no suspense answer is a bit rude.

Enterprise's control over society is reflected in TV programs, exaggerated advertisements, various branches, commissions, silver hands and zhu cun, which also give players different answers. Silver hand thinks that the company occupies everything, even deprives people of their souls, which is simply intolerable, while Zhucun thinks that wasteland provides stable employment for tens of thousands of people. There is a task line in the game where the daughter of a market boss joins Zeta Technology. V will ask him if he is worth it. He will answer, I know she has become a company dog, but at least she is well fed and warm, unlike me. The presentation and answer to this question are relatively simple, and the way to boycott enterprises is relatively "immature", which really needs to be completed.

Other Cyberpunk-style classic problems, such as the discussion of artificial intelligence (the story of Otto and Drammen), the discussion of people and memory (the continuation of the dream task line), and the discussion of business and religion (the task line of crime and punishment), are all raised in the game, but they need to go further.

Great changes have taken place in Cyberpunk culture since its birth. The problems and manifestations it contains are not what it looked like when it first appeared, so we can't criticize the understanding of Polish Donkey by quoting classics. The plot of the game may not be "classic" enough, and the issues discussed may not be "in-depth" enough, but as a huge city in Cyberpunk, City of the Night is attractive enough to integrate different styles of Cyberpunk vision into a whole.

I expect this city to present more "Cyberpunk-style" stories and become the "Pearl of the West Coast".

Suffer all my life.

In the game, the stories of different characters are all around the protagonist "the city that never sleeps".

They are legendary mercenaries, dreamers, out-of-date rock singers, conscientious policemen, rebellious vagrants, mayors who rebel against enterprises, or spokesmen of enterprises, but they all have their own goals and face their own difficulties. The city of night gave them dreams and a stage, but planted thorns in front of their goals.

If the theme of Wizard 3 is "You can't have your cake and eat it", then the theme of 2077 is "Your life is bitter", and everyone is trying to achieve their goals and resist the established destiny.

V and silver hand

V in the game is possessed by Keanu Reeves's "silver hand" because of an accident. At the end of the game, it is difficult to tell whether your role is V or silver hand, and even give you a silver hand to survive instead of V. But in that ending, it was difficult for Silver Hand to face V's friends, so he had to leave the city of the night alone.

From the initial opposition, to the mutual understanding in the task, and finally to the reconciliation, V and Yinshou actually have a clear transformation route.

When I first started playing, I was wondering why the silver hand should help V against the enterprise. If he needs to fight, wouldn't it be better to wait for him to occupy V's body? But after I came out from the voodoo gang, I realized that this way of replacing others was exactly what silver hand needed to resist. Finally, what is even more touching is that the silver hand can abandon the "will to survive" and give everything to V.

Although he is indeed a scum and an asshole, he never stops fighting. And he really thinks about V all the time. If you take him on a roller coaster, it will be funny enough. After all the content, I have to admit that the role of the silver hand was played very successfully, which made people love and hate. In A Journey to Kerry, the reunion of the samurai band really makes people see the rebellious spirit it carries, which is embarrassing.

However, due to the narrative style, the main task is short, and the image of the silver hand needs to be completed in multiple branches or even commissions. Many people find it difficult to understand the change of the silver hand, so they are full of confusion. Some people even get confused when the game process is inconsistent, so the silver hand is happy and angry. This is really a place where Polish donkeys have not been properly handled and skillfully guided in the open world.

To some extent, the fate of Silver Hand and V- has certain intertextuality, and they also came from a nobody.

To rebel against the legend of the company, I also think that "it is the most unique in my own world, failure?" Never heard of it. Death? Not to mention. "-it was not until death came to you that you found yourself just an ordinary person. Players take it for granted that they are the protagonists of the game and can do anything in this world, but in the end they can't get rid of the fate of death. )

Such intertextuality can be seen everywhere in the game. At the beginning of the game, you will receive a boxing task and meet a "left brother and right brother", which indicates the emergence of a silver hand; In the middle of the game, when you and Judy or Pan An raid them, they will enter a plot of "exchange of ideas", so that you can complete the blending of "spirit and flesh" with them; At the end of the game, the silver hand has already lived in V's body. After the sun is over, V will have an extra arm with a silver hand in his backpack. When he is equipped, his left hand will look like a silver hand. )

The end of ancient legends

Rogge, Kerry and Ott, former teammates of the silver hand, are all game legends in 2020. But by 2077,

In 2008, they were no longer legends.

Rogge, the underground queen of the city of night. She was the core of directing the bombing of Sakamoto Pagoda in 2020, but in 2077, she was willing to be a "middleman" but always remembered hatred. In the end of the sun, when the silver hand finds Rogge again, she will not hesitate to take part in the action again, take revenge on Adam with a heavy hammer, and finally die in the action (I think it may be more dramatic to hide the survival ending in the ending). She has always been attached to the squad of that year, thinking that all her achievements have been invested in them (related dialogue), and finally she can only seek liberation by dying.

Kerry, a rebellious rock star. The last thing Silverhand said to him was to fuck the band and be yourself. However, he suffered from depression in 2077. Although he succeeded in flying solo, he always thought he was living in the shadow of a silver hand. It is true that he still has rebellious spirit, but in the face of his shameless "Asian pop idol", he will also take part in accidental amusement for business needs, and he is even more afraid of being replaced by them. Although he expressed his willingness to start again at the end of the mission, he said "tomorrow" and burned the boat. Personally, I feel that he is trapped in the whirlpool of the city that never sleeps. It is said that after someone attacked Kerry, he still won't choose to leave the city that never sleeps with the protagonist, which is doubtful. )

Otto, a genius hacker in the city of night. She has a sparkling spirit of independence, thinking that she slept with a silver hand instead of being slept with, and even developed the software of "soul killer", but in the game, she has become a digital AI, and it is hard to say that this AI is Otto itself. She will help players burn the Oracle, but it really absorbs the human soul (personal guess, this intelligent AI is the next crisis in the city of night. )

The legend of the city that never sleeps in the previous generation, despite its high popularity, high talent and high means, finally dropped two nuclear bombs on Alabanta, but failed to successfully resist the company's rule. Some people even lost the meaning of self-existence because of this resistance, fell into hatred of the past, and found it difficult to find a way out and create a new world. (Personally, I think the silver hand is like this. )

The birth of a new legend

Jack, Judy, Pan An, Xiaohe, they know V for various reasons, have their own clear goals, and know the meaning of their existence, and have achieved some meaning because of the relationship of V, which can be said to be a legend of a new generation.

Jack, the true legend of the city of night! Jack is a big boy who grew up in the street. He is interesting, but he is sincere. He hopes to become a legend of the city that never sleeps, bring good feelings to everyone and gain everyone's respect after his death. No one really doesn't like Jack, does he? His favorite book is for whom the bell tolls. He thinks that the author of the book is bigger than the black hand, which can also show Jack's ideal. There is a task in the end of the sun called for whom the bell tolls. It can be said that V inherited Jack's wishes and became a legend. )

Jack is actually a common type in stories, playing the role of a novice guide. However, the Polish donkey can portray the clown as flesh and blood in just a few hours. His death adds a strong tragic color to the story, and it also provides enough motivation for V's action against the company, which is brilliant.

In the early version of the game, there may be a line of Jack's eternal life, but in the current version, it has been deleted. I think this is an efficient and economical decision. But out of emotion, I really want Jack to live! )

Judy, the mermaid in the night light. Frankly speaking, Judy presented in the game didn't find all the charm of the character, which was a little weak, but the underwater story was really shocking and she understood the emotional sources of the various actions of the character. Personally, this is the most successful performance in the game.

In Judy's room and her office, we can see that she wrote Superdream out of an artistic pursuit and is willing to try various ways, but it is only a rough "pornography". She joined the mocking gang to protect princesa, but she couldn't protect her lover "Little Ai". She once had a crush on Dancer, but she had to break up with her for Genting.

Judy has been in a crowded environment. She longed for the beauty of her home since she was a child, and never lacked the courage to seek freedom. In the star ending, she finally gave up everything and joined the homeless team with V to seek a new life. Personally, I think this is her best ending. At the end of the sun, although she will still be with V, she will have a big fight with V and choose to leave the city of night alone.

In my opinion, she is a promising and independent person in the new generation, with self-restraint and compassion. I hope there is a story about Judy and the scoffer gang in DLC, so that players can help Judy take over the scoffer gang and overthrow the Tiger Claw gang! )

Pan An, a hero among vagrants. Personally, I think the emotional transformation brought by Pan An's story line is the most natural and best. From the rudeness when I first met him, to the courage and generosity in the task, and then to Saul's performance in the sandstorm after his rescue, people really felt the affection.

She is never afraid of any difficulties. The car was stolen? Bring it back. Betrayed by your partner? Then come back to work! So much so that in the star ending, I was really moved to tears when I saw that I joined the homeless family with her help. Because I play V, it is really a kind of "revolutionary friendship". Even at the end of the sun, it is to lead the wanderers to expand their ranks and live. In the end of moderation, she will also chase the silver hand for V to the ends of the earth.

She once said to v, you are not alone. I introduced Judy here. I thought she would say Judy's name, but she did, Jack. So I think she is the person who knows V's situation best, and she also knows that the silver hand replaced V in the ending of moderation. Therefore, when I played Star Ending and she led the team through the sandstorm, I really had a heartfelt admiration for this product!

River, the conscience of the city of night. His gun is a real detective. In pursuit of the truth, he will lose his job. When he was a child, he saw his father die in front of him because he could do nothing, so he decided to become a policeman to protect his family and more people. In the environment of NCPD, he still hasn't forgotten himself and always reflects on his behavior. In the end, he will change his usual style of doing things because he gets along with V, keep weapons and help others resist the rule of enterprises, which can be said to be the conscience of the city that never sleeps.

But personally, I don't think this character is as heavy as the previous ones, or it may be that I was awake for too long when I called here, so it is difficult to have a deep emotional connection with his behavior. I hope that in the future DLC, when telling the story of the mayor line, he will have a chance to continue playing.

CDPR skillfully uses the contrast between the old and new generations (you can even find the corresponding relationship, Judy Ott, Pan An Rogge, Kerry River), and portrays them quite well. It makes all characters face some difficulties and seek hope through their own efforts. V and Silver Hand are just teammates in their stories. In contrast, the power of the new generation seems to be able to find the meaning of self-existence, while the legend of the old generation is lost in the process of company confrontation for various reasons.

Although the status quo that Cyberpunk social companies control everything cannot be changed, people's attitude towards suffering can be changed and they can actively seek rebellion. This is also a degree of light and hope.

By the way, I think there is a big story behind Okada and Gezi and Regina, and there is a certain degree of contrast. As a middleman, Okada and Gezi are a way to compromise and save the family, while Regina gave up her news ideal, but asked V to investigate the network mental illness. After finding all the mental illnesses, she said that she would publish a report to expose the truth. I gave the player an item, but I don't know what it is. I didn't find it in my backpack. I guess the task line was cut. )

In the entrustment, the player can save Regina's younger brother, and the name of the entrustment is "freedom of the press". When he is rescued, he will work with Regina and say that he has not given up revealing the truth. It is expected that CDPR can complete the tasks related to intermediaries. When players have completed all the commissions, they can make friends with all the intermediaries and start an underground revolution. (These mission lines can be highly correlated with the gang mission lines to help players understand various regions. )

A miserable life

Suffering people can be seen everywhere in the image of social groups, and they exist in any class of society.

A successful mayor, with a huge student loan, wants to change the company, but he is brainwashed unconsciously, and his wife can't trust him. Lizzy, the most dazzling star of the times, fell in love with the producer, but he betrayed her and secretly copied her consciousness for archiving. Even Saburo, the supreme ruler of Lanban Group, who values family most, will be strangled by his own son. The big prince and Lai Xuan of Lanban Group are always faced with the fate of being taken away by their father, and they must seek a breakthrough.

Aside from these big shots, the entrustment of the streets and alleys can always see the destruction of drugs and violence on ordinary people. 17 the task of network psychosis is 17 to blame the voice of society. It seems that the whole city of night can't find a happy person, a person who is not sad, and a person who is not oppressed by fate. Except for Jack, a big boy who is always naive and full of optimism, he is doomed to die in a mission.

The view that all beings are suffering is mentioned in the all-metal monk and his subsequent task line. The monk made it clear that most of the world is suffering. Only by looking at yourself and relying on Buddhism can you cross over. The monk will let you practice meditation in four ways and give you a way to face suffering. After meditation, you can talk to Tristan, divine and reveal your new destiny. (This task line cannot be automatically connected. I ran a complete map to find masters in different places and found four kinds of meditation. )

The sentient beings in the city of the night have been portrayed quite well, but without a certain degree of guidance, many task lines may be cut off, resulting in players feeling nothing about various gangs in the city, only thinking that they are wild monsters brushing lines on the roadside. Moreover, many characters mentioned in the entrustment adopt the way of soul narration, and players need to piece together stories themselves.

For example, V met a middle and high-level company in a commission. She killed a girl, but she thought V was a killer sent by a competitor. She bargained lightly with V, thinking that the girl's life was not worth mentioning, and arrogantly asked V to take money from the safe. "You will never earn this money." V opened the safe and found that she only had 2000 yuan, so she put a lot of money here and killed her with her backhand. Curious to open her computer, I realized that she leaked the company documents in the trunk because of a car accident, which led to a complete power outage in the company and various security measures stopped because of arrears. Even more irritating, her competitors will send emails to ridicule.

Such a narrative way leads players to explore by themselves and have the patience to talk to her in order to know the complete story. But many players kill the target when they see it while playing, and then take the money and leave. Naturally, it is difficult to understand the whole story. It is more difficult to produce emotional explosion points, which makes players feel intense emotions, but they feel an invisible depression.

The story of the city of night is really wonderful and beautiful.

Unfinished chapter

This part mainly discusses the abridged plot content and hidden lines that may be buried in the game, which is a pure brain hole after my personal play.

Tarot prophecy

There is an important collecting element in the game-tarot cards. According to the current clues, it can be inferred that each story corresponds to a tarot card, such as the emperor at the entrance of Alabanta, the queen at the entrance of the afterlife bar, and the fool at the entrance of V apartment. V's journey is a fool's world journey.

Because I personally didn't pay attention to this collection element in the middle of the week, but began to collect it after the ending, it is difficult to infer which plots the Polish donkey deleted according to the tarot card. However, in the ruins of Alaban Pagoda in 2023, there was a tarot card (the one that was blown up by a silver hand) belonging to a priestess. This corresponding number is probably Otkoning?

After collecting all tarot cards, Misty will divine the sun, stars, demons and temperance for you, and say that there is only one way to the "world". (that is, the game is over)

There are two interpretations of this sentence. First of all, only one of the four endings of the game is a true ending, and CDPR will continue to write DLC accordingly. Another interpretation is that any ending will lead to the "world." Personally, I prefer the first explanation, because the ending of the sun has made it clear that the subsequent DLC will be launched in the Crystal Palace, and the key figure "Mr. Blue Eyes" has been launched.

If you finish the line "Dream on", you will find that this blue-eyed gentleman is probably a "night companion" after talking to the mayor. "Shi Ye Company" is the rail transit operator of the city that never sleeps. In the star ending, it will also lead to Lanban Tower through the site of Shi Ye Company.

This name is worth pondering, and it also appears in various warrants. Personally, I think this is the first big BOSS of the game in the future. From this point of view, maybe the next DLC is Shi Ye's DLC, and the rail transit is convenient to open, so that players can have a showdown with Mr. Sky Blue Eye? This is so exciting.

And the mayor will call V at the end and invite V to investigate the follow-up of his story. This basically smashed the DLC related to Mr. Blue Eye.

Another obvious big boss is Otkoning based on artificial intelligence. This "creature" absorbs the human soul, grows in a horrible way, and can freely enter and exit the black wall. Otto is the initiator of the game story, and he is likely to appear as BOSS. After all, there have been many strange AI in the city of night, and it is not bad to have an intellectual crisis.

Especially after the player hits the monk branch, the silver hand will say that these ghosts might as well ask m Sidi. She will do another divination for you. The four cards this time are "Tower, Hermit, Anti-Demon and Anti-Pope". At present, it is clear that hermits are silver hands (or V) and pagodas are abandoned pagodas. Personally, I guess the villain is Mr. Blue Eye (too much like a mirror teacher) and the villain is AI-oriented Otto. In tarot cards, the pope symbolizes spiritual order, and the intention of reversing the pope is also in line with the mysterious AI.

Gangs, middlemen and others

In addition to these two clear dark lines, I personally think there may be more descriptions of gangs and middlemen in the city of night in the future. Their settings are full, but there are too few scenes.

In the process of playing, the middleman gave me the feeling of chaos and kindness. Although it will receive some entrustment from the company, the general direction is to crack down on companies and gangs and protect the interests of civilians, and it is likely to participate in the story of players. The intermediary is very kind to V and has certain contacts. For example, "Old Captain" is a fan of Johnny, "Father" is Jack's godfather, and Dakota is a member of Adecado and is planning some actions.

Behind the two middlemen, Okada, Gezi and Regina, there are great stories and a certain degree of contrast. Okada and Gezi are old monsters in the game, but Regina gave up her news ideal, but asked V to investigate the network psychosis. After finding all the psychosis, she said that she would publish a report to expose the truth. I gave the player an item, but I don't know what it is. I didn't find it in my backpack. I think it was cut. Needless to say, she is the owner of this class of pistol and is likely to have a role in the future.

There will also be some scenes about homeless people in the commission. Considering the important role of tramps in the main line, I personally think that the scenes of this gang are still relatively few at present and need to be improved in the future. It is expected that CDPR can complete the tasks related to intermediaries. When players complete all the commissions, they can make friends with all the intermediaries and start a real underground revolution.

Other clues come from various commissions or words in the game. On the Sun Line, Rogge will suddenly mention that she has a son. She has a high-level informant in the space orbit company who can destroy satellites. I wonder if this son has appeared in other endings. Personally, I feel that the appearance of these two roles is too abrupt, which is an obvious foreshadowing. Maybe even Rogge's son is the unknown informant, born with Johnny.

In addition, the tasks that I feel unfinished include Blue Moon, Nancy and Ricky Weitz. One of them is a Japanese idol, followed by unknown people, and finally returned to Japan to express his hope to see you again. Moreover, WNS News will also mention that there will be a Japanese Culture Festival next year, sponsored by Lanban, so this idol group may come back again.

Nancy "is a famous investigative reporter with a disappointing son." There is also the possibility of future stories. The press has a high status in the West, especially under Cyberpunk's worldview, which may play a role in revealing the truth.

I haven't found the super dream mentioned by Ricky Weiss either, considering that there are too few super dreams in the game, including crime and punishment.
