General definition

Philosophy is the beauty of order.

Philosophy is a subject that studies basic and universal problems. Generally speaking, its world outlook has a strict logical system. It studies some very basic problems such as the nature of the universe and the position of people in the universe.

There is a process for human beings to understand things, which is always from perceiving the concrete to understanding the abstract, and then to combining and understanding the abstract concrete. Abstract concreteness of rational knowledge is usually called wisdom or philosophical knowledge. Furthermore, various philosophical knowledge forms a theoretical system, which leads to "philosophy" or "the study of wisdom". This process is expressed by categories: philosophical knowledge {perceptual/rational knowledge}, system {individual/relationship}; Philosophy (philosophical knowledge/system).

According to its etymology, it means "pursuing wisdom". "Zhe" has a long history. For example, the words "Confucius' Ten Philosophers" and "ancient sages" refer to people who are good at thinking and knowledgeable, that is, western countries are similar to "philosophers" and "thinkers". It is generally believed that China's philosophy originated in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, represented by Confucius' Confucianism, Laozi's Taoism, Mozi's Mohist School and later Legalists. In fact, in the previous Book of Changes, philosophical issues have been discussed.

Understanding and Definition of Philosophy by Foreign Philosophers

Russell, 1

British philosopher Russell said: As far as I understand this word, it is something between theology and science. Like theology, it contains human thinking about things whose scientific knowledge is uncertain; Like science, it appeals to human reason rather than authority, whether it is traditional authority or inspiration authority. All exact knowledge (according to Russell) belongs to science; All doctrines involving knowledge beyond precision belong to theology. Theology and science are still no man's land, and they are attacked on both sides. This no man's land is philosophy.

2. Plato

Plato pointed out that "SOMA" (surprise) is the symbol of philosophers and the beginning of philosophy. Plato profoundly said: "iris" (rainbow, goddess of rainbow, messenger of Zeus) is the daughter of "thauma" (surprise), and there is nothing wrong with tracing her lineage. "iris" (rainbow) conveys God's will and gospel to people, and philosophy happens by accident. Under its attention, everything has shed all kinds of secular masks and revealed its true colors. Therefore, it shows that it is a real liberation force.

3. Aristotle

Aristotle said in Metaphysics: Seeking knowledge is the nature of all people. People began to think philosophically because of surprise. At first, I was surprised by things I didn't understand around me. Later, I moved forward step by step, but I questioned more important things, such as the change of the moon phase, the change of the sun, the moon and the stars, and the generation of everything. A confused and surprised person will realize his ignorance.
