Do doctors get paid if they don't see a doctor? See the patient and get a commission? Sun Simiao treated the poor free of charge, without pay.

He has a fixed salary, and the commission is generally only for the operating room. Everything else is normal, nothing special. Of course, every place has benefits, so people don't reward him for saving a life?

Closer to home, Sun Simiao often does not charge for medical treatment, and when he has no money, he goes to the mountains to collect herbs, that is, to learn medical skills and identify herbs. His fame spread like this, and he became famous when he was only 20 years old. People who live near Jingzhao often come here to see him.

Sun Simiao believes that studying medicine should not only read medical books, but also learn about the relationship between the five elements and the human body from Taoism. So in addition to medical books, he also read all three classics of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. When I was young, I became a learned man who was proficient in Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism.

In middle age, the intrigue between the ruling classes at that time and the tactics of killing each other disgusted him. Coupled with the influence of Taoist seclusion, Sun Simiao was determined to learn art in seclusion.

Around the age of 37, he left his hometown and lived in seclusion in Taibai Mountain and Zhong Nanshan for decades. During this period, Sun Simiao read a lot of medical works, including Huangdi Neijing, Shennong Materia Medica Classic, Acupuncture A-B Classic, Treatise on Febrile Diseases and other famous Chinese medical works, and also studied Zhuang Lao's classics, learning Zhouyi divination and yin-yang reasoning. The life of eating and drinking makes his temperament more detached and refined, unlike ordinary people.

Although he lives in seclusion in the mountains, people come to see him in an endless stream, and they are often people with chronic diseases and incurable diseases. After all, it is not easy to meet him, which just gives him an opportunity to study chronic diseases in depth. He began to look for the essence of the disease from patients and think about Taoist health preservation methods.

Sun Simiao is a very creative doctor. He used his profound medical knowledge and Taoist scholarship flexibly and came up with many brand-new treatment methods. For example, he found that the diet in the mountains lacked salt, and then he associated it with places with more salt. He rarely sees scabies, commonly known as coarse neck disease, which is our goiter now. He suspected that the lack of salt was the main cause of goiter in mountain people, so he tried to treat it with the thyroid gland of compound marine animals and plants such as seaweed, and the patient was really successful.

For example, cows were first fed with herbs and then treated with milk, eye diseases were treated with animal liver, and manipulative reduction of mandibular joint dislocation, catheterization with onion leaves, removal of esophageal foreign bodies and so on were invented.

During this period of seclusion, Sun Simiao combined his previous medical skills with his many years of medical experience to compile "A Thousand Daughters to Be Prescribed". He believes that people are more valuable than a thousand daughters, and a prescription can make people out of danger, so he named it "a prescription for a thousand daughters." This book not only summarizes the artistic knowledge before the Tang Dynasty, but also laid the ethical foundation of Chinese medicine at the beginning of "great doctors are sincere" and "great doctors are refined".

In addition, Sun Simiao has always attached great importance to the study of maternal and child diseases. This book emphasizes the significance of setting up a maternity and child specialist, which has a great influence on the establishment of gynecology and pediatrics in the Song Dynasty.

At this time, Sun Simiao's reputation not only resounded through Shan Ye, but also spread to the capital. Emperor Wendi of Sui Dynasty, Emperor Taizong of Tang Dynasty and Tang Gaozong promised high-ranking officials generous salaries many times, but he had no intention of fame and fortune and devoted himself to studying medicine, but they all refused.

However, dignitaries often seek medical treatment from him, so he often goes back and forth between the capital and the mountains, without any dissatisfaction because of the long distance and delicate patients, and is completely equal. Therefore, from nobles to civilians, they all respect him more. At that time, Song, a great scholar, and Lu, one of the four outstanding figures in the early Tang Dynasty, all treated him as a teacher.

In 674 AD, Sun Simiao wrote to Emperor Gaozong, resigned due to illness, and returned to the mountains. Sun Simiao didn't hold any official position in his life, and he should have come and gone freely, but he basically lived in Beijing in his later years, because the royal family often called him, and he was too old to go back and forth. At the same time, he also felt that the book "1000 yuan for the party" written in his early years was not perfect enough, and he wanted to go back to the mountains and write a book with peace of mind.

In such a semi-secluded situation, he sorted out and summarized the prescriptions and experiences he collected in his later years for more than 30 years, and compiled "Thousand Gold Fang Yi", which is a supplement to "Thousand Gold Fang Yao". These two books devoted his life's efforts and collected the knowledge of Chinese medicine. Unfortunately, after several wars, Qianjin Fang Yi no longer exists, and the current version is imported from Japan, which is quite different from the original. He finished this book before the end of his life, and its implementation was a great loss to the field of traditional Chinese medicine.

Sun Simiao died soon after he finished writing. In his later years, Sun Simiao was proficient in astronomy, geography, medical ethics and divination of yin and yang, and he had a profound insight into the development and changes of things, even reaching a superb level. People privately say that he is already half a fairy. After his death, in order to commemorate him, the world changed the mountain forest where he once lived in seclusion to "Wang Yaoshan" and built the Wang Yao Temple here.

Sun Simiao devoted himself to medical research all his life, taking saving the wounded and dying as his own duty, and treating every patient with compassion. In the last few years of his life, he is still trying to leave more works for future generations. He strictly requires himself to practice medicine according to his "great doctor's sincerity", and his noble medical ethics is enough for a hundred years.
