The ultimate goal of learning Buddhism is to become a Buddha, so life is only a few decades. What is the ultimate goal at this stage? Monks are old and sick. Why?

The purpose of practicing Buddhism

Fazambhikhu

First, enrich the spiritual life

Life in the world, just a few decades, has passed in a blink of an eye. Think about it, after everyone is born, after a few years of child life, he will go to school to live a life of study, six years of primary school and six years of middle school, and then he will be lucky enough to enter the university for four years, and then he will struggle for his life, get married, struggle for his life every day, maintain his family and run his career, and then he will be too busy to overdraw, and then his body will gradually grow old.

That's how everyone lives. What's the point of thinking about this?

As a religion, Buddhism can provide us with a correct direction of life and enrich our spiritual food. And make us inject spiritual life into our family and career, and bring a balanced life policy. Because Buddhism teaches believers to join the WTO.

Our life should be viewed from two aspects: material life and spiritual life. Material demand is the basic requirement of everyone's survival, but stupid ordinary people will regard it as the whole of life and spend all their time and energy on getting more and better money and materials. We human beings are endowed with wisdom, so we need spiritual satisfaction, so that we will not be empty, and we can balance our lives and avoid deviations. Buddhism can provide us with spiritual food in this respect.

Step 2 cultivate morality

Morality is the way of human existence. People can trust each other and live in peace. This is the principle. When people in a society generally have high moral standards and wise leaders, people can live and work in peace and contentment without strict criminal law. However, when morality is decadent and leaders are corrupt and incompetent, even if the country is governed by strict laws, the people are not guaranteed and live in fear and misery. The basic material life can't be realized, and the spirit is just fear and anxiety.

It is mentioned in the letter that the Buddha once lamented the low political and moral standards, so the devil tempted the Buddha and said, "Buddha! Manipulate politics yourself! Rule by yourself, realize the politics of not killing and being killed, conquering and being conquered, and obeying morality without sorrow! But the devil was severely rejected by the Buddha. Because the sage's way is towards truth and ideal, while Jun Wang Zhidao is full of greed and filth. The two are just the opposite. (Corresponding to Department 4.30, Zaahan 1098 Beijing)

Buddhism teaches us to stop evil and cultivate good, and to abide by the precepts preached by all Buddhists: "All evil should be avoided, all good should be pursued, and the mind should be purified." . Abide by the five precepts of Buddha and the six-day eight precepts at home to achieve a lofty social and moral realm.

Three. Seeking the truth

When the Buddha lived in Swasti, a tree was given to a lonely garden. Once the Buddha said to the monk, "Monk! A man lost his way in the forest and happened to find an ancient road. He walked along it. Finally found an ancient city. The ancient city is surrounded by gardens, and beautiful lotus flowers float in the pond. This is a pleasant ancient city.

The man went to tell the king and said, Your Majesty! I lost my way in the forest and came across an ancient road. I just walked along it. Finally found an ancient city. The ancient city is surrounded by gardens, and beautiful lotus flowers float in the pond. This is a pleasant ancient city. The king can rebuild a city there. When the king heard this, he was very interested and sent his ministers to build it. Later, the population of that city increased and it was extremely prosperous.

Monks! In the same way, I also found the ancient road that enlightened people walked. What is the ancient road taken by the ancient awakened ones? That is the eight right paths: right view, right thinking, right language, right career, right life, right diligence, right thinking and positive determination.

Monks! This is the road I took, and soon I knew the cause of old age and the way to eliminate it.

Monks! Knowing this method, I taught it to monks and nuns, as well as to Youposai and Youpoyi at home. So many people know this method, the population has increased, and it is extremely prosperous, even today (Correspondence Department 12.65 City).

What are the causes of old age and death? "I remember when fate was not enlightened, I was alone and absorbed in meditation. If you are thinking, how can you die of old age? Why did you die of old age? That is, positive thinking, honest life and so on. There is a reason to die of old age, such as having, taking, loving, receiving, touching, entering, and being famous. Why is there a name? What are the names and colors? That is, mindfulness, mindfulness, standby, well-known, rational and well-known. When I am thinking, I will return with the same knowledge, which I can't surpass. It is said that fate is famous for its color, and the name and color have entered the place six times. Fate touches and receives, fate loves and fate takes. Fate is born, fate is birth and death, worry, sadness and chagrin. If there is, it is purely bitter. " ("Za Ahan 287 Classics")

How to eliminate old age, illness and death? "When I do this, I will think about this problem. Why not die of old age for no reason? How to die of old age? That is, correct thinking, honest life, etc. Life without cause, old age without death, life without death, old age without death. If you are born, have, take, love, receive, touch, enter the ground, name, color, knowledge and travel widely.

I was thinking again, why not do it for no reason? How to destroy the reason? In other words, thinking correctly, being honest, etc. Do nothing, do nothing, know nothing, know nothing, die for a reason, die for a reason, touch for a reason, die for a reason, love for a reason, die for a reason, die for a reason, age for a reason, illness for a reason, death for a reason, worry for a reason, etc. If so, it is pure suffering. "("miscellaneous Ahan 287 Sutra ")

Step 4: Relieve stress.

Ordinary people are trapped by many people and things, because they cling to what they have for me or me, and have a strong grasp of the changing phenomenon, which leads to distress. Therefore, the Buddha said, "The lust loves happiness, the suffering loves happiness, and the suffering loves happiness, and it is difficult to get rid of it. (I don't know the color,) I don't know, I don't want to leave. If you accept, think and act, and know what you like, what you like, what you love and like, and what you suffer, you can't get rid of it. " (Five Classics of Za 'ahan)

In the Four Classics of Zaahan, the Buddha said, "Bhikkhu! If you are aware of color, if you are bright, if you are broken, if you are free from desire, you will get old, get sick and die. Monks! If you know, if you know, if you leave greed, if you are free, you can live and die. If there is, accept, think, act and know. Knowing, knowing, breaking, and leaving greed can lead to life, old age, illness and death. 」

Verbs (short for verb) cultivate compassion.

When the Buddha heard the Persian king and his princess Molly talking about "no one is more lovely than himself", he told them, "People's thoughts can be seen everywhere. But no matter where you go, you can't find anyone cuter than yourself. Similarly, others regard themselves as the most lovely people, so people who know how to love themselves will not harm others. " ("Correspondence" 3.8 Jasmine)

Then the Buddha said to the king of Persia, "Your Majesty! Indeed, as you said, if a person does evil with his mouth, he doesn't really love himself. If a person does good deeds with his mouth, he really loves himself. " ("Correspondence" 3.4 Love)

6. Born with a positive outlook

To practice Buddhism, we must have a sincere belief, a belief in wisdom born after understanding the teaching method, not superstition. Superstitious people believe in the power of ghosts and gods, seek good or ill luck in divination, seek divination and help, and do not listen to Buddhism, learn Buddhist scriptures or even practice the Eight Meanings.

The Buddha said in the Twenty-two Classics of Zaahan: "Look at the colors, if they are past, if they are future, if they are present, if they are internal, if they are external, if they are ambiguous, if they are refined, if they are good, if they are ugly, if they are far away, if they are near; Everything is uncertain. See the impermanence of the right view, get rid of sex, get rid of sex, and be kind. 」

Righteousness is to understand impermanence, to understand birth, aging, illness and death by observing the changes of people, things and things around you; Or live, live, be different, and die; It is also a process of success, being alive, being bad and emptiness. Buddhism generally says that' all actions are impermanent'. The Buddha wants us to understand that everything in the world is impermanent and there is no eternal truth.

The Buddha said to the king of Persia: Death is like four mountains (old age, decline, illness and death), and none of them is spared. (Pabbatopama Sutta) Even if the Persian king sent elephants, horses, infantry, military advisers, or bribed with gold hidden in the state treasury, he could not stop the dead king. Hearing this, the king of Persia said to the Buddha, "Buddha! Faced with this situation, there is nothing we can do. Only by believing in the three treasures can I hope that I can do good deeds and accumulate virtue as long as I live. 」

The Buddha told the Brahman Sangelo: "If there is a basin, if the water is dyed red or blue, it will not reflect the original appearance. Similarly, if people are infected by greed, they can't see the truth because their hearts are unclean. If the water boils, it won't reflect its true colors. Similarly, if people's hearts are burned by sadness, because they are not clean, they cannot see the truth. If the basin is full of aquatic plants, it will not reflect the original appearance. Similarly, if a person's heart is covered by ignorance, because the heart is not clean, he can't see the truth. ..... Similarly, a person's heart can always reflect the truth if it is not defiled by greed, burned by greed and covered by stupidity. ("Correspondence" 46.55 Sad Logic) In order to have a positive view of various phenomena, we must eliminate the inner dirt.

Seven. Tertiary industrial purification

The Buddha said to the king of Persia, "Your Majesty! There are four kinds of people in this world: those who go from darkness to darkness; People move from darkness to light; People go from light to darkness; From light to light.

Your majesty! What kind of person goes from darkness to darkness? Your majesty! For example, some people come from humble origins and live in poverty. This man has done bad things in body, mouth and mind. What do you think will happen? This man, on earth, continued to do evil, died of ill health and was born of evil interests. This kind of person is going from darkness to darkness.

Your majesty! What kind of person will go from darkness to light? Your majesty! For example, someone comes from a humble background and lives in poverty, but this person does good deeds, good deeds and good deeds. What do you think will happen? This man, on earth, continued to do good deeds. He died in poor health and had good taste when he was born. This kind of person goes from darkness to light.

Your majesty! What kind of person will go from light to darkness? Your majesty! For example, some people are born rich and live a rich and happy life. But this man is doing evil things in body, mouth and mind. What do you think will happen? This man, on earth, continued to do evil, died of ill health and was born of evil interests. This kind of person goes from light to darkness.

Your majesty! What kind of person will go from light to light? Your majesty! For example, some people are born rich and live a rich and happy life. This man does good, does good, does good. What do you think will happen? This man, on earth, continued to do good deeds. He died in poor health and had good taste when he was alive. This kind of person is light to light. "(corresponding department 3.2 1)

People are born to be human, so we should think about doing evil deeds, continue to do good deeds, purify our body, mouth and heart, and increase our merits, so as to ensure that we can continue to be born among people and move from bright to bright.

The Buddha told the monks with the metaphor of cloth: "monks! You know that greed is the pollution of the mind, so you must try to quit it; Knowing that corruption is the pollution of the mind, we must purify it. Even if dirty cloth is washed with clean water, it can become clean cloth. Gold ore must be melted in a furnace to get pure gold. " ("Central" Volume VII "Cloth Jade Sutra")

Eight. Know the truth about yourself

In "Everything is Burning? In ditta Pariyaya Sutta, three brothers Ye Jia and their 1000 disciples said, "Monks! Everything is burning! What is burning? Eyes are burning, colors are burning, eyes are burning, eyes are moving, eyes are in pain. If you are bitter, you are unhappy. How did it ignite? I declare that it is ignited by greed, ignorance, life, old age, death, worry, sadness, pain, anxiety and trouble.

Monks should look at it this way. The saints are tired of eyes, tired of colors, tired of eyes, tired of eyes, tired of eyes, tired of eyes. Ear, sound; Nose fragrance; Tongue and taste; Body and touch; Meaning, dharma, awareness, touch and touch are all born, and suffering is not suffering but happiness. If you are bored, stay away from it and get rid of it. If you get rid of it, you know that your life is over, you have done what you have done, and you know that you are not affected by it. "After listening to them, they all proved to be Siraitia grosvenorii.

Knowing that all this is burning, if we can break our desires, all the related unkindness will be broken, and then the burning fire will go out.

Nine. Find yourself

When the Buddha was sitting alone in the Rosen forest in Liu You, the children of thirty good families took their wives to play in the forest. One of them was unmarried and brought a prostitute to attend. While they were playing, the prostitute stole the property and ran away. When people were looking for this woman and saw the Buddha, they asked him. The Buddha asked them, "Young people! what do you think? Is it more important to find a runaway woman or to find yourself? This group of young people were in a daze after asking Buddha, and one of them replied that it was important to find themselves, so Buddha told them that this group of young people followed Buddha to find themselves. A collection of laws. 1. 14)
