Appreciation of Zheng Sixiao's poem "Send Friends Home"

Send a friend home

Song Dynasty: Zheng Sixiao

In 2008, Gao Xue was called to Du Xun, Zhejiang.

A glass of wine takes a long time.

Phoenix is in the universe and elk is in the forest.

Don't look back in the future, the smoke is deep.

translate

Your hair is like snow, you are old, calling for a ferry, on the misty coast of Zhejiang.

It is the season of falling flowers. Let's raise our glasses to say goodbye, and then we will see the bright moon shining high, and we will be together for thousands of miles.

You are like a phoenix, aiming to soar in the vast space; I am like a deer, and I naturally like quiet mountains.

I turned back in vain after breaking up. I only saw the dark jungle shrouded in smoke.

To annotate ...

1, full of snow (zān): full of white hair. Hairpin: an object used by the ancients to iron dragon hair.

2. Zhejiang: Water name refers to Qiantang River. Xun (xún): By the water.

3. Flowers fall: refers to the late spring season.

4, Phoenix: the legendary bird name, noble character. The body of the universe: the phoenix movement, which means noble behavior.

5. Elk, commonly known as the Four Elephants, is a magical and auspicious species in China tradition. The ancients regarded the elk horn change as a symbol of the revival of all things and the change of seasons, and even used the elk horn to predict bad luck.

6. Invisible: hazy.

Distinguish and appreciate

The first couplet is related to the topic, which describes the image of friends and the place to say goodbye. My friend is old, white as snow, and he is an old man. Friends go home by water, and the place to see them off is near Zhejiang. These two sentences each form a simple picture. The white hair fluttering in the wind contrasts with the foggy river, showing a sad atmosphere.

As a supplement to the first couplet, couplets point out the season and scene of farewell. In late spring, fragrant flowers wither. Flowers fly, fragrance dies. The poet is already full of emotion, not to mention that in this season of falling flowers, friends have to go home all the way. It is impossible to say goodbye to friends, when to meet again, and whether to meet again. This situation is very sad. It's just that this parting glass of wine may be a little strong, diluting the annoying parting. The antithesis is to push the real scene far away, write lyrical words in vain, comfort friends, chat with *, and don't be too sad to leave, although thousands of miles apart. You can also enjoy the bright moonlight. The language comes from Xie Zhuang's Moon Fu: "Beauty walks in the dust, thousands of miles away." I agree with Su Shi's "I hope people will live for a long time and have a beautiful scenery thousands of miles away." The first, second and second couplets are mostly written in real words, so the necklace is written purely from the imaginary part to avoid the stagnation of literary spirit and emotion. This couplet uses two refined antitheses to write about friends, which is also my own ambition and interest. Who is the poet's farewell friend, his moral integrity and the reason why he traveled thousands of miles are not mentioned in the first and second couplets, but from the author's deep friendship, we can see the noble personality of this friend. These two sentences point out that my friend's trip is seclusion in the mountains, so it can be speculated that the writing time of this poem should be after the death of Song Dynasty. In the last sentence, I took a leisurely trip with my friends, bearing the high-spirited Dapeng in Zhuangzi and nine Wan Li. The next sentence uses deer in the mountains to describe the wildness of friends. Two sentences are both a compliment to a friend and a self-metaphor. However, Zheng Sixiao cares about his motherland. Just as the Yuan soldiers had gone south and the Southern Song Dynasty was on the verge of despair, he wrote a letter to the Queen Mother and Master (Gongzong) with indignation and was impassioned. Therefore, the death of him and his friends at this time is by no means a natural joy, but a show of integrity that never bows to the new dynasty.

The tail was tied back, ending the "farewell". When a friend's hometown is drifting away, looking back, only the smoky shadows are dark and unfathomable. "Smoke in the Woods" is a description of the scenery, and it also implies the author's heavy and confused mood at the time of generation change. This is a sentence describing the scenery in the poem, which is full of symbolic significance. It deepens the artistic conception of poetry and has endless echoes and sighs.

Creation background

The exact writing time of this poem is unknown. One evening in late spring, the author bid farewell to an old and like-minded friend. After that, I'm afraid I'll never see you again. So I wrote this poem to express my very heavy and confused feelings.
