What are the seven nights in the north?
The seven nights in the north are: Qinglong, Baihu, Suzaku and Xuanwu. The seven northern lodges refer to the seven northern Xuanwu lodges divided into four elephants according to the southeast and northwest. In the traditional culture of China, the four elephants refer to Qinglong, Baihu, Suzaku and Xuanwu, representing the east, west, north and south directions respectively. The northern Xuanwu is dominated by gossip, and the five elements dominate the water, symbolizing the old yin in the four elephants and the winter in the four seasons.
Xuanwu is an animal composed of turtles and snakes. The original meaning of Xuanwu is Xuanming, and the ancient sounds of Wu and Ming are interlinked. Wu means black; Ghost means yin. The seven nights in the north are the seven nights in Xuanwu. The combination of tortoise and snake is called Xuanwu, which was originally a description of tortoise divination. It turned out that the underworld was in the north, and the divination of Oracle Bone Inscriptions in the Shang Dynasty was "Buhui North", so Xuanwu became a northern god again. Seven Nights in the North is the product of the combination of ancient China mythology and astronomy.
