The story behind Oracle Bone Inscriptions.

Oracle Bone Inscriptions is an ancient script in China, also known as Wen Qi, Oracle Bone Inscriptions, Yin Ruins or tortoise shell and animal bones. Oracle Bone Inscriptions mainly refers to the characters carved on tortoise shells or animal bones by the royal family in the late Shang Dynasty in China. It is the earliest known carrier of Shang writing system in China and East Asia.

Oracle Bone Inscriptions, written or carved on tortoise shells and animal bones, was unearthed in Xiaotun Village, Anyang, Henan Province. Because it was the capital of Pan Geng, the king of Shang Dynasty, to Di Xin, it was called Yin in history. The Shang Dynasty destroyed the country and became a ruin. Later generations named it "Yin Ruins". Therefore, Oracle Bone Inscriptions is also called "Yin Ruins Characters", and its content is mostly the words of royal divination, so it is also called "Oracle Bone Inscriptions" or "Zhenbu Characters".

Oracle Bone Inscriptions has a history of over 3000 years. It is not only the earliest and most systematic material for studying the origin of China characters, but also an important wealth for studying oracle calligraphy.

Oracle Bone Inscriptions got its name because it was engraved on tortoise shells and animal bones. Traces circulated in Shang Dynasty is the earliest Oracle Bone Inscriptions Traces, which records Oracle Bone Inscriptions during 270 years between Pan Geng and Zhou Wang.
