On Qian Gua from the Book of Changes
? The word "Qian" originated from the Book of Changes. Among the sixty-four hexagrams in Zhouyi, the hexagrams and characters of dry hexagrams are the best. Hu Yigui, a scholar in the Southern Song Dynasty, said: "The next three hexagrams are auspicious but not fierce, and the last three hexagrams are beneficial but not harmful", which is the only hexagrams in the Book of Changes without fierce regret. Qian Kun walked up and down the humble mountain. Judging from the hexagram style, the former hexagram is Kun for the land, and the next hexagram is Gen for the mountain. Both the mountain and the earth are tolerant of all things, and they are not arrogant and broad-minded, just like towering peaks hidden under the ordinary earth, which is the most direct symbolic significance of Qian Gua. It can be seen that the ancients realized that modesty is the most important virtue of human beings thousands of years ago. Therefore, in the legend, when Fuxi painted eight diagrams and Wang Wen performed Zhouyi, the thousand hexagrams were specially designed and matched with the best words in Zhouyi.
Idiom: Modesty also comes from modesty. The first six words of Qian Gua in Zhouyi: modest gentleman, used to refer to Dachuanji. Translated into vernacular, that is to say, a very modest gentleman is very lucky when crossing the river. Modesty and prudence complement each other. Modest people can listen to other people's opinions, so that they can handle things carefully and save the day when they encounter unexpected things. Crossing the river is inherently dangerous and can be resolved for very modest and prudent people. Today, this idiom is used to refer to people who are modest and prudent, can be strict with themselves and have high moral character.
? During the Spring and Autumn Period, Qi Huangong was broad-minded and let bygones be bygones. He appointed Guan Zhong, who had assassinated himself, as prime minister. Qi Xin made concerted efforts to rectify the internal affairs of the country, carried out routine reforms, and respected the monarch and sought survival outside. With the help of Guan Zhong, Qi Huangong quickly became powerful and became the first overlord in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. The story of Qi Huangong and Guan Zhong, like the legendary story, left a model of a wise monarch and a wise minister in the history of China. Confucius commented on Qi Huangong and said that "Qi Huangong is just, not arrogant".
? After Qi Huangong, Zhong Er, the son of the State of Jin, stepped onto the historical stage. He is modest and studious, and is good at making friends with talented people. He was forced into exile 19 years because of his participation in the rebellion in Li Ji. This is the famous Zhong Er going abroad. According to legend, when Zhong Er was in exile, the only ox cart pulling property was stolen by the driver. He didn't even have food, so he begged from the country people. The countryman picked up a lump of soil on the ground and gave it to him. Zhong Er was so angry that he wanted to go up and slap him. Counselor Hu Yan said, "This is the land that God will give you!" " Zhong Er kowtowed and thanked him, put the mud in the car and took it away. Childe Zhong Er treated his subordinates humbly and respectfully, and finally returned to China to reign with the help of many subordinates, which is the famous Jin Wengong in history, and soon became the second overlord of the five tyrants in the Spring and Autumn Period. As a generation of sages, Jin Wengong and Qi Huangong are equally famous in history and are called "Qi Huan Jinwen".
? Modesty, as a virtue, has been established since the early development of human civilization. Throughout ancient and modern China and foreign countries, modesty is regarded as one of the most important virtues of human beings in any historical period. One of the basic teachings of Buddhism is compassion, and Buddhism takes the pursuit of compassion and wisdom as its highest goal. Compassion is a Buddhist term. Kindness means bringing happiness to others, and sadness means eliminating anxiety in others' hearts. The essence of this morality centered on the happiness of others is humility and respect.
