A set of symbols in ancient China, consisting of eight patterns composed of three long paintings or broken paintings, was used in China and Japan for divination and the detailed explanation of eight basic symbolic figures in Zhouyi. Each figure consists of three "-"(Yang) and "-"(Yin) respectively. These names are: Gan, Kun, Zhen, Xun, Kan, Li, Gen and Dui. According to legend, it was written by Fuxi. The author of Yi Zhuan thinks that eight natural phenomena, namely, heaven, earth, thunder, wind, water, fire, mountain and ze, are mainly represented in the Eight Diagrams, and that "Gan" and "Kun" occupy a particularly important position in the Eight Diagrams and are the source of all phenomena in nature and human society. In the eight diagrams, there are four contradictory forms: dry and Kun, shock and training, seeing and reasoning, and attending the meeting. Legend has it that Zhou Wenwang combined the eight trigrams with each other and got sixty-four hexagrams to symbolize the development and changes of natural and social phenomena. Gossip originally reflected the ancient people's understanding of the real world, with simple dialectical factors. Since it was used as a symbol of divination, it has gradually taken on a mysterious color.
