There are few problems that Feng Shui can really solve, and there is nothing we can do about the new problems we encounter.

As far as I know, Joseph Needham clearly classified "Feng Shui" as pseudoscience-divination in Chapter 14 "History of Scientific Thought" in the History of Science and Technology in China. If Professor You feels that the Chinese version is wrong, or even the original English version is wrong, please provide evidence.

Professor You said that animal nesting is also geomantic omen, so it can be concluded that ecology is geomantic omen and ecosystem is geomantic omen system. These two paragraphs give readers, including me, a strong feeling that Professor You is an expert in Feng Shui. In Professor You's view, feng shui has turned over a salted fish, which is really "feng shui turns around". Since Professor You "never reads Feng Shui books", can I think that Professor You's "preface" is irresponsible?

Professor You thinks that "Western scholars have begun to pay attention to China people's cosmology of" the harmony between man and nature ",which is helpful to make up for the deficiency of western reductionism, including the investigation and understanding of geomantic omen", which is also somewhat interesting. However, Professor You and "western scholars" can rest assured that the so-called "harmony between man and nature" has never successfully solved any problems. Its only value is that people are in a state of inexplicable intoxication.

7. "Feng Shui Science" and Nonsense

What bothers me is not that someone studies Feng Shui. In fact, Feng Shui can certainly be studied. As a cultural phenomenon, the study of geomantic omen opens a window to the past civilization, allowing us to understand people's behavior in the past and some unsolved problems, such as the layout of some ancient buildings. It's like champollion solved the mystery of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics. To my disgust, some people want to raise Feng Shui to the height of "Feng Shui Science". A passage by Lu Xun is worth remembering:

Now there is a group of people who are good at telling lies. They hate science the most, because science can teach people to understand the truth, think clearly and stop fooling around, so they naturally become enemies of liars. So the liar must find a way to rule him out. [...] One of the most ingenious is making trouble. One is to drag science into the story, making it unclear, and even science is possessed ... Feng shui can actually be compared with astrology and alchemy: they are all products of the pre-scientific era. But today we only study astronomy and chemistry, not astrology and alchemy, because they are too rough, even if we have some simple practical knowledge, there is no need to study them at all. Modern astronomy is far superior to the similar parts that astrology can provide from the richness of knowledge to the accuracy of prediction. In an era when the chemical reaction of a simple system can be calculated with the knowledge of physics, I can't think of any value in alchemy. The same is true of Feng Shui. The knowledge of environmental science that we talked about today has been able to provide us with a lot of accurate knowledge, not what your professor said. Today, if we want to live a better life and make the earth live longer, then we have to turn to modern science-that is, "western science" that Professor Wu Guosheng claims to "save".

Sorry, science is science. There is no "Oriental Science", let alone "Feng Shui". Upgrading Feng Shui to "Feng Shui Science", besides making science a bit ghostly, what else can it bring?

8. Let's ask Professor You to talk about substantive issues.

In my opinion, the editor of Science Times is really competent, because the article he extracted from Professor You just represents the typical idea of some people: 1) Western science is out of date or "facing crisis". 2) The "good days" will also turn over, and cliches such as geomantic omen and "harmony between man and nature" may be staged again. 3) "Science and technology is a double-edged sword", and so on.

There have been many articles refuting these so-called claims. If Professor You still insists on his own point of view, please provide evidence. "Feng Shui has hindered the development and progress of China". Although many people like to quote Joseph Needham's sentence "On the whole, I think it embodies a significant aesthetic component", the words of missionary Mai Gao Tai more than a century ago are still worth remembering: how harmful an arrogant and nostalgic mentality is.

Professor You is old, and I always have a fear that my words will accidentally hurt Professor You. But this is a question worth discussing after all. Professor You still has the right to continue to talk about "Feng Shui", and I fully support this right. However, there is a premise, regardless of age or professional title, only one thing can be believed: evidence.

Books like Kong Xuan Xue are difficult to learn, complicated and difficult to master. I use yin and yang to adjust feng shui, and both yin and yang rooms have obvious effects.
