About the god of war
Among the numerous Greek myths and legends, the most famous ones are the following: the origin and process of the Trojan War, the Atreus family, the Cadmus family, the founder of Thebes, the story of golden fleece, the legend of Hercules and theseus, the story of Oedipus, the story of the Seven Heroes' expedition to Thebes, and the story of Odyssey. These myths are basically family-centered, with different systems, but they all reflect the desire of ordinary people at that time to avoid misfortune and pursue a better life, and praise the fantastic and heroic temperament. For example, it is said that Hercules was very powerful and killed a snake in its infancy. As an adult, he killed Medusa, Hydra and Banshee, even defeated Hades, the keeper of hades, and rescued theseus from prison, so that they could reunite. Golden fleece's story is more romantic. The son of King Eide of Joecks, the ancient Greek country of Thessaly, was murdered by his half-brother, Pirias, and the throne was usurped. After Pirias seized the throne, he sent Jason, the son of Iyad, to look for golden fleece, claiming that if he could find Wool, he would return the throne to him. For safety reasons, Jason led a group of people to set off on Argo, and finally got golden fleece with the help of his wife Medea. On his return, Medea designed and killed Pirias, but was soon abandoned by Jason. Medea was sad and angry, and killed her and several children of Jason. This story later became the main material of the tragedy Medea written by the Greek playwright euripides. Greek mythology is an important foundation of Greek religion, and it also shows its important characteristics.
The Oracle of Rome
The god of early Roman religion was not a man, but a god. Their rituals are simple and mechanical, lacking ideological content, and have no influence on the lives and morals of ordinary people. They just praise God's grace in general, mainly focusing on field life and personal family. The family gods they believe in include the protector (that is, the guardian of the family) and the god of the underworld (that is, the god of ancestors). Family gods are people who protect family property, such as Vesta, the kitchen god in charge, and Anoos, the double-faced god. He is the door god. Agricultural gods include laris, the god in charge of agriculture and fields, Chris, the god in charge of grain, Pomona and Voronos, who are in charge of orchards. The Romans took a very respectful and pious attitude towards these spirits. The duty of a family's father is to act as a priest of the family and preside over ceremonies to appease many patrons. These rituals include daily prayers, incense burning and drinking, but when you are busy, you just need to recite the name of God to show your worship.
With the expansion and consolidation of Roman power, the state took measures to rectify the setting of gods and unified many scattered and arbitrarily set gods into L-3 gods. They are Jupiter, Juno and Minerva. Jupiter is the Lord God; Juno is his wife, the goddess in charge of craft and wisdom; Minerva is equivalent to Athena in Greek mythology, the goddess who guards and defends handicrafts, medical skills, musicians and poets. Later, some other gods were introduced into Roman mythology, mainly Mars mythology, which was equivalent to Ares and Mercury in Greek mythology, and Hermes and faun in Greek mythology.
Roman religions also draw nutrition from eastern religions. For example, Isis in Persia, Osiris, Mitra in god of light, Sabazius in Phrygia, an ancient country in Asia Minor, and Targa Tis in Syria all spread to Rome first, and then to Rome, and were loved by many people. Mithra, in particular, was all the rage for a period of time, which laid the foundation for later personality worship.
Not long after, Caesar was assassinated and became a hero in people's minds and was regarded as a god. After Octavian came to power, he also used people's worship of God to promote himself. For a time, Octavian became a god-like figure in many people's minds, and his personal worship reached its peak.
Roman official religion is presided over by clergy, whose functions include recording and managing religious affairs, supervising the burning of sacrifices, and divining the future by observing birds and examining the internal organs of sacrificial animals. Every memorial day of the gods, there are usually colorful holiday arrangements. With the passage of time, Greek culture is increasingly integrated into Roman culture. Under the influence of Greek culture, Roman religion gradually improved. Jupiter and Zeus, Juno and Hera, Minerva and Athena began to have the same status and role. Although these gods have some official nature, they are not mandatory. Everyone can determine what they believe according to their own preferences. Perhaps because of this, Roman religion, although seemingly chaotic, provides a sense of stability and security. Whenever a person encounters difficulties or dangers, he will go to God for spiritual comfort. However, with the victory of a series of conquests, Rome's material wealth is increasing, but its moral values are deteriorating. Although Octavian tried to change this situation after he came to power, he vigorously publicized his worship and tried to restore the moral vitality of the Romans through this move, but it had little effect. Only then did the worship of heroes in Roman society gradually become a trend. It spends a lot of emotion and energy to praise a conqueror or leader every year, instead of following religious ceremonies, and gradually creates a precedent for western dictatorship.
