Exploring the origin of Liu's surname

The fourth surname of Chinese in Liu Wei. There are three origins;

(1) from the qi surname. According to legend, the surname of Emperor Yao, one of his descendants took Qi as his surname and was named Liu Guo (Tangxian County, Hebei Province), later known as Liu.

② The source is Du surname. Du Bo's grandson is a judge in the State of Jin. After Xianggong's death, the scholar went to the State of Qin to meet Yong, the son of the State of Jin, and stayed in the State of Qin because of the changes in the State of Jin. His descendants took Wei Liu's surname (meaning "stay").

(3) The source is Ji's surname. In the Spring and Autumn Period, the younger son Wang Ji was named Liu Kanggong (south of Yanshi County, Henan Province), and later generations also called Liu. In Liu's history, there are many famous families. Liu Pengcheng Kui family, Nanyang Liu Jin family and Liu Zhucheng Yong family all occupy an important position in the history of China. Not to mention the Liu Bang family in Pei County, which split the Han empire. Emperor gaozu Liu Bang founded the Han Dynasty, and Liu became your emperor for more than 400 years. During the Three Kingdoms period, Liu Bei established Shu Han, and two generations proclaimed themselves emperor for 43 years. It took 60 years for Emperor Wu of the Southern and Northern Dynasties to establish the Song Dynasty. At the end of Yuan Dynasty, Liu Bowen assisted Zhu Yuanzhang in establishing the Ming Dynasty and unifying China for 276 years. It can be seen that Liu is good at laying the foundation

The Liu family has five complex groups of members.

The organization of this family is also complicated. According to textual research, they are at least composed of the following five groups: descendants of Chi Di, descendants of his father Wang Ji, surname change of Lou, surname change of Xiang and surname change of Huns.

There is a preface about the surname of Liu Jingwei in the First Record of Liu in Taihe, which describes it most clearly: "Only Liu is from Qi, and then his son has a text saying that Liu Lei is a surname because he thinks it is a surname. Kongjia was a royal dragon surname in summer, and his descendants were more loyal to Wei surname in Shang Dynasty, Du surname in Tang Dynasty and Du surname in Zhou Dynasty. Because of his formal appointment, Du Life was recommended as a judge.

The sage more than 4,000 years ago, known as one of the "Five Emperors", is a descendant of the Yellow Emperor's surname Ji. Therefore, tracing back to the source, the Liu family is obviously the most authentic descendant of the Yellow Emperor.

In addition, among the other descendants of the Yellow Emperor, there is a family named Liu Wei, according to the Records of Famous Men's Words and Actions. It is pointed out in the book: "Dr. Chow was in Liu's diet, and he was healthy and dedicated, and later", and the so-called "Dr. Chow" in this document was actually a descendant of his father Zhou, which was sealed in the southwest of Yanshi County, Henan Province. In other words, this Liu family originated in Zhou, originated in Henan.

So, where did the Liu family, which originated from Emperor Yao, originally originate? It is recorded in Tongzhi Genealogy: "Tao Hou was sealed in Liu, and now he lives in Tangxian County, Dingzhou", which clearly points out that Liu's hometown is now Tangxian County, Hebei Province.

Liu Bang, the famous Emperor Gaozu, was born from the branch of Emperor Yao. According to textual research, this Liu family was originally bred in the present Shaanxi-Gansu area, and began to spread to Henan and Jiangsu in 300 BC, that is, the fast king era of the Zhou Dynasty. Among them, among the descendants who moved to the land of abundance and Peiguo in Jiangsu, there was a man named Liu Duan who gave birth to four sons: Bo, Zhong, Bang and Jiao. The third son, Liu Bang, was the founder of the Han Dynasty. He later ascended the throne from scratch.

After Liu Bang conquered the world with a commoner, he quickly enfeoffed the whole country with the same surname. Therefore, the subsequent tribal reproduction naturally laid a solid foundation for the Liu family in various places, forming a grand occasion for Liu in various places for more than two thousand years. According to legend, Liu's kin and relatives were distributed in Pengcheng, Weishi, Linhuai, Nanyang, Guangping and Danyang.
