What is the relationship between the stars and the stars of soul mates?

A famous scholar in China insists that the Twenty-Eight Stars originated in China, and makes a rigorous deduction according to the literature. This gentleman's theory has been recognized by many scholars.

The particularly large "Dou" in the center of the lacquer box cover specially extends four strokes to the east, west, north and south respectively, and these four strokes just point to the four centers of the twenty-eight palaces and four palaces.
