Who is Deng Gong, the sage of Guangxi?

His real name is Deng Zizhen, and his legal name is Deng Qing. Deng Gong Ye Sheng, the idol of the temple, is not among the legendary gods. It is said that in the thirty-sixth year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1557), the three halls of the imperial palace, namely, Fengtian (Taihe), Gai Hua (Zhonghe) and Baoshen (Baohe), were burned by fire for four days and four nights. Emperor Jiajing was at a loss. At night, he dreamed that a man had a bowl of water in his hand, sprinkled it in his palace and said to the emperor, "Lord, chicken!" Sure enough, it rained cats and dogs just after the fourth watch. The emperor ordered Buddhism to divine who sent the rain, and divination learned that this Taoist priest was a good man in Cenxi, named Deng Zizhen, whose legal name was Deng Qing, but he had been gone for half a year. Emperor Shizong of Ming Dynasty awarded the title of "Lord Deng Gong, Earl of Ling Wei" to commemorate Deng Qing's meritorious fire fighting. In memory of Deng Gong, Cenxi people built many Deng Qing Temple in various villages, among which Deng Qing Temple in Du Nan, Deng Qing Temple in mountain village and Deng Qing Temple in Zhangmu are the bigger and famous ones.
