"Ding" is the appellation of ancient ancestors in China.

The history of Ding originated in Xia Dynasty, when it was used by a few slave owners to worship their ancestors. In the Yin and Shang Dynasties, it gradually became the main tool for offering sacrifices to gods, forming the origin of Ding culture. In the Zhou Dynasty, it was used by nobles and emperors for large-scale ancestor worship activities. It can be said that the tripod was mainly used for offering sacrifices in ancient times, but ancient documents recorded that the early tripod was also used for carrying food, but it was quickly eliminated because of its huge size.
