Reflections on Reading The Core of Consciousness
After understanding his development, we can find that he is a typical Japanese designer, meticulous, concise and clear, and his design pays attention to appropriateness and environmental protection. Including his brand management policy when planning Muji, what he wants to hear is that guests can say "Ah! This is what I want! " Because this is a sentence that humans will say after seeing others experience that feeling because of past experiences. For him, what he wants is to take a step back and compromise with himself. Finally, consumers find their own way of life in MUJI. This "feeling of sharing" is the best praise for him.
Naoto fukasawa summed up his design concept as "unconscious design". "No thought", also known as "intuitive design", is a design concept first put forward by naoto fukasawa, that is, "transforming unconscious actions into visible things". In addition, there are three other naoto fukasawa-style philosophies, including spontaneity, prototype, performing artistic achievements and emotion. In the interview of "The Core of Consciousness", based on his own philosophical system, naoto fukasawa described his own feelings and views on design. The following are my thoughts after reading this interview.
First of all, I searched the definition of consciousness: consciousness is an incomplete and vague concept. When people think or feel their thoughts like images, they are also human consciousness, which cannot be accurately described in words. It is generally believed that consciousness is a person's cognitive ability and clarity to the environment and self. Scientists can't give an exact definition. John searle popularly interprets it as: "a state of perception, feeling or consciousness, which will last throughout the day unless you fall asleep again or enter an unconscious state after waking up from a dreamless sleep". Now the concept of consciousness is the easiest to carry out scientific research on consciousness. For example, some people perceive something, others perceive themselves. Sometimes, "awareness" becomes synonymous with "consciousness", and they can even replace each other (from Bing's website). So about the extension of the concept of consciousness, we know that there are pre-consciousness and subconscious. Then naoto fukasawa put forward a very novel concept "unconsciousness". Looking at naoto fukasawa's speeches and his products, we can know that "unconsciousness" is not really unconscious participation, but that people know what they need, but they have not realized what they really want. Shenze pays attention to all kinds of neglected details about "unconsciousness" life. The foothold of "unconsciousness" is precisely the core of consciousness.
Naoto fukasawa pursues a seemingly calm, one-stop behavior level, which is consistent with Wagenfell's view that "the simpler the product looks, the more difficult it is to manufacture". The book Design Principles also mentions that "the calmer the design result, the deeper the skills of designing works". "The function of designing works will quietly reveal a kind of beauty-I have learned a lot by understanding his ideas. As novices of industrial design, we always pursue "coolness" in modeling, but ignore the beauty of the most important function of the product. In addition, naoto fukasawa also mentioned various behaviors in people's daily life, such as walking, eating, etc., which are continuous behaviors of seeking value. When people, things and environment reach perfect harmony, they find the core of a kind of consciousness. In fact, people don't mean to act, but are often unconscious. Designers need to express life objectively, and good design is to look at this thing from the standpoint of a third party. This gives me two impressions. First of all, as a designer, you need to have a pair of keen eyes. You should love life, be good at paying attention to people's established behaviors in life, and analyze them as design reference. These are all knowledge reserves for designers, and design is not imaginary. Secondly, as designers, we need to hold an objective attitude and not judge the likes and dislikes of users subjectively. If the designed product is adapted to some of our own behavior habits, it is niche and inappropriate. We need to remember that design serves most people and should solve their problems.
So, when a design naturally meets the needs of users, what else do we need to consider? Here, I want to mention a design in naoto fukasawa. Muji originally made a trash can. At this time, when making a shredder, the function of shredding paper was added to the original trash can. This is to maximize the use of original resources and reduce costs. Naoto fukasawa once said that "the best environmental protection design is when the product and the environment are in an excellent balance". He pursues the unity of products and environment. When products and environment are in harmony, this design is environmentally friendly, so the design of naoto fukasawa is environmentally friendly. Recently, the smog in Wuhan is serious, and the environmental problems in China and even the whole world have been worsening. As designers and manufacturers of indirect industrial products, we should pursue environmental protection in every link of design and do our part for the earth's ecology.
When a product looks good and the production process is environmentally friendly, we may have higher expectations for it, hoping that it can meet our higher emotional needs, that is, the collateral effect after the product embodies the core of consciousness. All seemingly worthless places have their value. People unconsciously see things and explain them directly, and make the best use of them. When people, objects and environment achieve perfect harmony, a beautiful use situation map will be produced, and design is among them. In the products he designed, you will find that his design and modeling are very simple and meet the needs (prototypes) you have in mind; In harmony with the environment, you can use it easily with your past memory without reading the instructions (spontaneity); There are more wonderful details and materials (artistic achievements) in simple modeling. Naoto fukasawa taught us how to design and extract some elements that match the environment from various elements of our living environment. This design makes everyone happy.
In a word, as a designer, I don't know enough about design. Naoto fukasawa's speech reminded me that design needs to go into the users themselves and consider deeper things. Life is the source of inspiration. The knowledge contained in my life needs me to explore, apply and learn constantly.
