What is the meaning of {Gui Ling} in Guiguzi?

Guiguzi asked the leader to "cultivate his ambition". That is: cultivate your will to be very solid and never waver. At the same time, it is just an interesting metaphor to put forward an ambition as effective as a "turtle". The tortoise is a long-lived animal. Its abdomen and back have a solid shell, which makes people look strong. Especially a turtle in the north of China, they move very slowly, even for a long time. The tortoise doesn't do other sports, but moves its neck, that is, it retracts its head and neck into its shell, and then stretches it back and forth from time to time. Because the body is motionless and consumes little energy, as long as it can find a wet place and it has enough water, it can stop acting. There is only peace when you stick your head out to feed on passing insects, mosquitoes and flies. If the site is correct and there are no other accidents, it will exist forever. Because of their long life, the ancients thought they had unique wisdom and hoped that they would guide them in the maze, which caused their great disaster. Ancient China people caught them and roasted them with fire until their shells cracked and all kinds of wrinkles were exposed, thinking that this was their "instruction". This is Oracle Bone Inscriptions in China's early writings. Perhaps, after being explained by a special person, the cracks on the shell may be consistent with the facts, so they are called Gui Ling. Later, this divination method was no longer used. Either the efficacy is insufficient, or the tortoise has been extinct by them. Only those Oracle Bone Inscriptions and ancient Chinese characters, as well as the name of a turtle, are available in later generations.

Why did Guiguzi lead the imitation of Gui Ling? The reason is obvious. First of all, it is said that Gui Ling is very wise and insightful. Second, the shell of the turtle is very strong, and at first glance it has a strong, heavy and stable feeling. Third, the Linggui action is not light. It may stay in one place for years, decades or even hundreds of years. It is very quiet and not easily disturbed. Fourth, Guiling has a unique lifestyle, which is different from all other animals and has a long life. Fifth, the turtles must have a strong will, and their tenacity can be fully demonstrated from their situation. All this symbolizes the qualities that an excellent leader should possess. Therefore, Mr. Guigu proposed: raising spiritual turtles. Of course, people are people and turtles are turtles. So-called: Imitating the tortoise is just an emphasis and symbol.
