108: It means seeking truth and eliminating 108 kinds of troubles. Generally speaking, there are 108 kinds of troubles, six kinds (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and mind) and three kinds of bitterness, namely, bitterness, joy and abandonment, totaling 18 kinds. Six roots have three kinds of good, evil and so on, which make up eighteen kinds, totaling thirty-six, and then past lives's three generations make up one hundred and eight kinds of troubles.

54: It represents the fifty-four steps of Bodhisattva's practice, namely, ten faiths, residence, ten lines, ten directions, ten places and four good roots.

42 pieces: representing the 42 levels of bodhisattva's practice process, namely, ten dwellings, ten rows, ten directions, ten places, equal senses and wonderful senses.
