How did Shangguan Waner die?

Guan's ancestral home is in Shaanxi (Sanmenxia, Henan). Her grandfather, Shangguan Yi, was a famous scholar with a prosperous career. He was a scholar in his twenties and became a bachelor in Hong Wen Pavilion. In his forties, he became the third assistant minister of Gao Zongchao. But in the power struggle between Emperor Li Zhi and Empress Wu Zetian, he sided with Li Zhi. When Li Zhi had doubts about Wu Zetian, Shangguan Yi took the opportunity to advocate the abolition of legislation and wrote a letter to this end. From the perspective of loyalty, this choice is correct, but from the perspective of current affairs, it is impossible to lose again. And his loyalty was not reciprocated by Li Zhi. When Wu Zetian heard the news and defended with tears, Li Zhi immediately relented, not only giving up the idea of scraping, but also taking the initiative to throw Shangguan Yi out as a scapegoat in order not to catch fire in the backyard: "This scraping was not my intention, it was all instigated by Shangguan Yi." -the fate of the Shangguan family has been reversed. Wu Zetian hated Shangguan Yi from then on, and instructed Xu Jingzong to arrange for him to join the "rebellion case" of the deposed Prince Jong Li. Shangguan Yi and her son Shangguan Tingzhi were both executed, but they had no property and their wives were not maids. In order to maintain the "husband-wife relationship" in Li Zhi, Shangguan Yi paid the price of losing his family.

This happened in 664 AD, the year when Shangguan Waner was born. As a baby, Wan'er didn't know what was going on around him. She slept in her mother's arms, Zheng, and went from court to court. Since then, she has become a maid-in-waiting who lives like dirt.

It is said that when Zheng was pregnant, he dreamed that someone gave him a big weight. Zheng asked someone to divine this dream, and the host said, "You will have a son who will have the skills to balance the country." The Shangguan family was very happy to get such a reply. This dream spread among relatives and friends, and everyone envied it, thinking that the Shangguan family was going to have another prime minister. Who knew that a girl was born when she was pregnant and gave birth to a child? People who have heard of this dream have made fun of it, thinking that divination will never come true.

If such a thing really happens, Zheng's mood can be imagined how depressed. Who knows what happened later was even worse. Not only did the prime minister's son lose hope, but even his daughter and himself became ladies-in-waiting, and it seemed that there would never be a bright future.

The palace is a completely different environment from the outside world. Even though the people who can enter it are handmaiden, most of them still have a good background and talent, so it is also a place full of ambitions and dreams, with distinct grades and endless struggle. Shangguan Waner grew up in this palace, and the surrounding environment has a fundamental impact on her later life.

Since ancient times, there has been a study hall in the palace dedicated to teaching imperial etiquette, singing, dancing, piano and chess. By the time of Emperor Ling of the Han Dynasty, the content of Palace Studies had expanded beyond literature, poetry and books. In the Tang Dynasty, the system of imperial academy was further improved. A special Ye Ting Bureau was set up in the palace to manage the names and daily affairs of maids. The main content of the work is "raising silkworms and learning from them". There is a doctor of court education in the bureau, who is in charge of education, teaching imperial secretary to write and calculate and so on. Palace ancient books, music, dance, chess and painting are very rich, which is by no means comparable to the people. As long as the imperial secretary is determined to learn, the chances of becoming a talent are very great. Moreover, imperial secretary can also benefit from his academic performance. In addition to attracting the attention of the emperor, entering the establishment of concubines may also become a "palace official." Palace official is the female official department in the palace, which is divided into six departments, echoing the six male departments set up by the court, led by five categories: Shanggong, Shangyi, Fu Shang, Shangshi and Shanggong, and there are also 24 departments and various canon women's history.

Of course, Zheng, who comes from an extraordinary family, doesn't want to be a slave all his life and let his daughter waste her talents in vain. Therefore, Wan'er not only received training in court teaching, but also received strict requirements and supervision from her mother. Zheng's original intention of cultivating and learning may be just to pass the time and strive for a position as a palace official and a female history, which will somewhat change the difficult situation of the families of criminals in the palace. But with the passage of time, Shangguan Yi's brilliant genes became more and more obvious in her granddaughter, and the final development far exceeded their expectations. When Wan'er was thirteen or fourteen years old, he was not only outstanding in literary talent, but also intelligent and agile in temperament. He became the most talented student in the history of Gong Xue Museum and won a great reputation.

Wan'er's talent soon reached the ears of Wu Zetian, which aroused her curiosity. About two years in Yifeng, Tang Gaozong (AD 677), Wu Zetian ordered Wan'er to write a composition face to face.

This is an exam. No matter the level or craft, it is quite similar to Jinshi Shi Ting. The only difference is that the examiner is not an emperor but a "queen of heaven", and the examinee is only a girl of 14 years old.

Shangguan Waner successfully passed Wu Zetian's proposition test. Her on-the-spot writing reached the level of "ruosu structure". Wu Zetian marveled at Wan Er's talent and immediately decided to keep her around and be her own personal female official.

Many legends believe that Shangguan Waner promised to be a female official with Wu Zetian with the mentality of "undercover" to avenge her father and her ancestors. She also said that she had tried to assassinate Wu Zetian many times. After being forgiven, she was impressed with Wu Zetian and was willing to obey her all her life. I don't know how reliable this statement is, but some people often like to compare this legend with Wu Zetian's praise of Luo's outstanding talents in Wu Tan, and think that these two things are enough to prove that Wu Zetian loves talents. In fact, this is not the style of Wu Zetian. Although she loves talents, she loves herself more. If Wan'er really tried to assassinate her, Wu Zetian would never forgive Wan'er. Although she praised Wang's literary talent, she still unequivocally let Wang "have nowhere to go."

In fact, Shangguan Waner, who has just grown up, is not a miss Xiang Fu, but a "imperial secretary" who has been deeply influenced by the court since childhood. She has no memory or affection for her grandfather and father. For as long as she can remember, she only knew the humiliation and pain of being a handmaiden. She knows very well that in the struggle between court and power, a person's life is just a grain of dust, and the ruler's robe sleeve can disappear without a trace with a flick. It turns out that grandpa and his father failed in their political bet. Wan'er was demoted from Miss Xiang Fu to a maid-in-waiting, and jumped from a handmaiden to a female official. She knows very well that everything about herself comes from the distinguished "Tianhou" in front of her. Now, only by being loyal to Wu Zetian can she live an enviable life with her mother and turn the maid-in-waiting who once laughed at her into a pauper at her feet.

In the end, Wan'er successfully passed the examination of Wu Zetian. At the age of fifteen, she officially became a female attendant of Wu Zetian, and entered the palace to make an imperial edict (equivalent to a senior secretary).

In the year when Wan'er became the Queen's maid, the future middle school emperor Li Xian was just "Li Zhe, King of England". Although Wan'er gradually became familiar with him, I'm afraid he didn't expect to be his concubine in the future. Judging from her later attitude towards Li Xian, Wan'er, a girl at that time, even the Seeds of Love, subconsciously wanted to climb higher, and the object could not be the king of England. Because the prince at this time is 24-year-old Li Xian, and the most common man in Shangguan Waner, except the emperor Li Zhi, is probably Li Xian. So there is a legend: Wan'er is Li Xian's attendant, and he has a love affair with Li Xian, a "refined Rong Zhi".

However, even if the legendary love existed, it was quickly shattered.

Because Ming Chongxi claimed that "Emperor Taizong was the king of England" and the imperial secretary said that Li Xian was actually born to the younger sister of Wuhou, the three people with political views and power conflicts, Mrs. Han, Wu Zetian and Li Xian, were soon at loggerheads. In the second year of hanging furnace (AD 680), Ming Chongyan was "killed by thieves". Wu Zetian immediately listed Li Xi 'an as a major suspect and investigated him on this ground. After Gao Zhichao and others searched in Pei County, hundreds of armor were found in Taitai's stable, and the Li Xian Rebellion became irrefutable evidence.

On August 22nd, 27-year-old Li Xian was abolished as a prince. The imperial edict to kill him was drafted by seventeen-year-old Shangguan Waner for Wu Zetian. There is no love in the court. Facts have proved once again that Wan'er has strengthened his determination to keep up with Wu Zetian. And this determination will accompany her life.

The day after Li Xian was abolished, 25-year-old Li Xian was made Prince and renamed Yonglong.
