What is an oak tree?

Quercus plants

It is a green or evergreen tree in summer, and a few are shrubs. Acorn, the fruit of an oak tree, is particularly easy to identify and is a kind of nut. The fruit is protected by a cup-shaped shell called a shell barrel. Simple leaves are alternate, deeply divided, and smooth or serrated edges are rare. Stipules fall off early. The flower structure is simple, with single perianth, monoecious and catkin inflorescence.

Species description

Summer oak and sessile flower oak growing in Central Europe are typical white oak. They are widely distributed and tend to cross, so it is sometimes difficult to distinguish them. Their leaves have smooth edges. White oak is durable and widely used in shipbuilding. An oak tree can provide living space for 350 kinds of insects.

The red oak tree growing in eastern North America is typical. Red oak also appears in parks and botanical gardens in central Europe, but it is rare in artificial forests.

Red oak is characterized by thin leaves. Acorns ripen in two years. The wood of red oak is not waterproof because of its porous channels, and its application value is not as good as that of white oak. However, red oak wood has vivid lines, but it is very useful in furniture manufacturing.

Only about 20 kinds of oak trees are suitable for making wine barrels.

culture

Oak is sacred in ancient religions, gods and legends. Oak trees are regarded as different gods in different civilizations.

The Greeks believed in Zeus.

The Roman Empire believed in Jupiter,

The Celts thought the oak tree was very sacred, and the oak tree was an important member of their divination.

Germans believe in Raytheon Dona.

In the German Empire (until the Third Reich), after the Bodhi Tree (Populus davidiana), the oak tree was designated as the national tree (which can be found in the next German).

The folklore that oak trees are easily struck by lightning is groundless.
