The implication of four-armed Guanyin

Four-armed Guanyin is an important deity worshipped by Tibetan Buddhism, which has an extremely lofty position in the minds of Tibetan people. The Tibetan people are convinced that the reason why the snowy area can be enlightened and gradually create civilization is inseparable from the transformation of Guanyin Bodhisattva, which is regarded as the patron saint.

Four-armed Guanyin, Manjusri Bodhisattva and King Kong Hand Bodhisattva, collectively called "three clans with respect" (three masters in snowy areas) and "three masters in affairs", represent three characteristics of "forbearance of evil, compassion and wisdom" respectively, so they are called "three masters of compassion and wisdom" and are the compulsory methods of secret riding. Four-armed Guanyin is a widely used Buddhist theme in Tibetan Buddhist works of art.

Symbolism in Tibetan Buddhism Thangka is not a simple transfer and translation of Buddhist concepts, but has aesthetic essence and connotation. It provides "illumination" and "annotation" for the aesthetics of the viewer's concept by symbolic means, which makes the concept visualized and simplified, and directly permeates aesthetics by popular artistic means such as implication, suggestion, metaphor and borrowing.

Symbolism is embodied in the schema, content, vocabulary and skills of theme painting. In the four-armed Guanyin Thangka, Guanyin's appearance, posture and solemn objects all have profound meanings of Tibetan Buddhism.

Statue characteristics of four-armed Guanyin

In the Thangka, murals and sculptures of Tibetan Buddhism, Guanyin, a typical four-armed Buddha in the snowy area, is usually a still image. This four-armed Guanyin statue is very elegant, quiet and solemn. Guanyin has four arms on one side, wearing a five-Buddha crown, sitting on the lotus platform with diamonds on her feet. Her body is full of colorful light, giving off dazzling light.

In Thangka, the four-armed Guanyin in the static phase is as white as the bright moon, with black hair tied to the top and Amitabha, the supreme teacher, on the top of his head. Guanyin has many ornaments, including earrings, necklaces, brooches, bracelets and anklets.

Guanyin's eyes are slightly closed, her mouth is closed, she smiles silently, and she stares at all beings with the insight of Bodhisattva, showing her compassion.
