What was the name of the first encyclopedia in China?
The original Yongle Dadian has not yet determined whether there is a permanent tomb, but the copy of the Dadian was destroyed, most of it was destroyed by war, and a considerable part was stolen by later generations in the name of repairing books. Today, there are only over 800 volumes, which are scattered all over the world.
Encyclopedia Britannica called China's Ming Dynasty book Yongle Dadian "the largest encyclopedia in world history". It has become an important symbol of China culture.
The earliest encyclopedia:
Yongle Dadian is an encyclopedic classic revised in Yongle period of Ming Dynasty. Its coverage includes politics, literature, medicine, myths and legends, street novels, craft making, weapons making and everything that can be thought of at that time. Even in the later collection of cultural relics, there even appeared a book named Yongle Dadian, which not only drew all the doors in China from ancient times to Yongle, but also included the word "door" written by 19 calligraphers.
There really is everything. So this book is divided into more than 22,000 volumes, and there are 60 volumes in the catalogue alone. It took five years for more than two thousand people to complete the revision of Yongle Dadian, involving seven or eight thousand books. Moreover, the Yongle Grand Ceremony is not a small typesetting in the ancient tradition of China, but a large typesetting with a length of 55cm and a width of 30cm.
